Belle Vue November 13th 2011

The Shootout finale saw 55 Craig Finnikin come from behind to win the National Points title and with it the silver roof for 2012.  Going into the meeting Craig was in third place behind 515 Frankie Wainman and 4 Dan Johnson.  There was no change after the heats but after winning the final Craig moved up to second and was within striking distance of the leader.  Frankie failed to finish in the last race of the day, Craig took sixth from the lap handicap and ended the day art the top of the pile by 32 points.

Heat one went to 391 Andrew Smith after 111 Mike Williamson had led the first eleven laps.  16 Matt Newson moved into second in the closing stages.  Mike Williamson was the early leader in heat two before 198 Nigel Whalley had a brief spell ahead.  35 Neil Shenton took the lead around half distance and fought off a late challenge from Frankie Wainman to take victory.  424 Mike Heywood led them away in heat three before being passed by 197 Ryan Harrison on lap six.  Ryan’s lead was short lived as Andrew Smith went by soon afterwards on his way to the flag with Frankie Wainman taking another second.

The meeting final had Mike Williamson as the leader for five laps and then Nigel Whalley for the next three.  Andrew Smith then moved ahead with Craig Finnikin close behind.  Craig went to the front briefly but Andrew passed him next time around.  Craig stuck to the task and was able to regain the lead soon after, he then romped away to the chequered with Frankie Wainman going second with five to run, Frankie took the runner up spot with Andrew in third.

351 John Frost led the first couple of laps of the All Comers event but was then passed by Nigel Whalley.   Nigel went on to a comfortable victory with Andrew Smith in second but all eyes were on Craig Finnikin as he steadily moved up the places.

Coventry November 5th 2011

The meeting opened with the Grand National Championship Final.  16 Matt Newson and 22 Will Yarrow traded places at the front for a few laps before Matt managed to break clear.  515 Frankie Wainman moved into second at half distance and then hit the front on lap fourteen.  Frankie pulled away to take the flag with Matt in second and 55 Craig Finnikin passing Will late on to take third.

The White and Yellow final was next up and this went to 215 Geoff Nickolls who led from flag to flag.  He was pressurised by 98 Les Spencer early on before 276 Mark Poole, who had started well down the grid, came on the scene,  Mark and Les swapped places in second and third a few times which allowed Geoff to open up  decent lead.  Mark was the eventual runner up with 105 Chris Bonner in third.

The third championship race was the World of Shale final.  Craig Finnikin, Frankie Wainman, 197 Ryan Harrison and 84 Tom Harris  and 4 Dan Johnson all had short spells at the front before Craig regained the lead.  Dan was running second but he pulled off leaving Ryan in second and that is how they finished, Frankie placing third.

415 Russell Cooper led heat one until four to run when 21 Mark Gilbank passed him.  Two laps later Craig Finnikin got by Mark to take his second win of the evening, Mark hanging on for second.  505 Rob Tunnah led the opening laps of heat two but 394 Chris Clare was soon past on his way to victory with Rob in second.  Geoff Nickolls led the consolation race for much of its distance but 321 Ed Neachell got by him in the closing stages, as did several others.  Ed took the flag with 11 Neil Scriven in second.

192 Luke Dennis led the opening lap of the final, then it was the turn of 208 Steve Malkin.  Chris Clare moved ahead on lap four as many of the stars were sidelined in various incidents.  Chris Bonner moved up to second around half distance but despite his best efforts he could not catch the flying 394 car.  Chris Clare thus recording his first ever final victory with Chris Bonner second and a late charge from 53 John Lund saw him take third.

Kings Lynn October 29th 2011

The first race was mainly for whites and yellows but doubled as heat one in a two-thirds format meeting. 235 John Weldon led them away with 267 Graeme Robson close behind. 45 Nigel Harrhy experienced early problems as 415 Russell Cooper moved into second with first yellow 441 John Lawn in fourth. 280 Colin Nairn attacked Dutch visitor 195 Harman Zwerver with Russell Cooper now challenging for the lead. Russell half spun allowing John Lawn through and he went on to take the chequered. 215 Geoff Nickolls made second on nine but could not close the gap with Graeme Robson, John Weldon and 111 Mike Williamson contesting the next three places.

Heat two saw the reds and blues joining the fray and it was John Lawn again who took the honours. Mike Williamson led early as 197 Ryan Harrison tangled with Harman Zwerver, 2 Paul Harrison clashed with 16 Mat Newson and 97 Murray Harrison had a coming together with 343 Barry Heath. The latter tangle caught out 515 Frankie Wainman who lost a lot of ground. 55 Craig Finnikin was the first of the Shootout drivers to make an impression but he was attacked by 84 Tom Harris with 4 Dan Johnson also getting involved. Up front it was John Lawn from Geoff Nickolls with 335 Mark Woodhull third. Craig Finnikin got by Tom Harris who was then attacked by the recovering Paul Harrison. Mark Woodhull moved into second as the laps counted down with Tom Harris getting by Murray Harrison on the last bend for fifth.

496 Neil Holcroft led the opening laps of heat three with Graeme Robson then 192 Luke Dennis second. Murray Harrison was fourth by lap three with Ryan Harrison also making a good start. Russell Cooper went second as Murray removed Luke with 321 Ed Neachell third. Ed  moved into second on ten with Tom Harris third and then first and second as Neil Holcroft retired. Ed was shown the red cross as he had fluid coming from the back of the car but he continued and crossed the line first only to be disqualified. Frankie Wainman had got by Tom Harris and he was given the win with Tom second and Dan Johnson third.

Graeme Robson led away the all in final with Mat Newson and Frankie Wainman making good starts from the Shootout grid. Harman Zwerver spun across the home straight which required a caution but not before he was clipped by Tom Harris damaging the 84 car back bumper leading to his exclusion. Dan Johnson attacked Frankie Wainman on the restart causing the latter to retire with sparks shooting from the car. Murray Harrison took up the running on six with Geoff Nickolls second and Mark Woodhull third.  Craig Finnikin got by Matt Newson to take fourth at half distance. Paul Harrison then challenged Mat and as he went wide the World Champion was through as was Dan Johnson. Geoff Nickolls was feeling the pressure and slipped down the order with Craig Finnikin taking up the running as the lap boards came out. Dan Johnson came into second as Paul pushed Murray and Mark Woodhull wide for third. This allowed 191 Joshua Smith into fourth with his best drive for some time with Murray recovering for fifth.

Luke Dennis led away the national as Nigel Harrhy spun and then collected Paul Harrison as he rejoined at the back of the field. Tom Harris got in a hit on Frankie Wainman and the pair clashed again and slid into a dead car delaying Tom more than Junior. Mark Woodhull had taken the lead from 462 Scott Davids and Matt Newson.  Scott briefly took the lead as Barry Heath and Paul Harrison tangled. Mark Woodhull put Scott Davids wide to retake the lead with Mat Newson now second. Mat took  the lead on ten with Dan Johnson in fifth behind Josh Smith who he hammered wide for fourth. Scott Davids got by Mark Woodhull for second but Mat Newson was gone and Frankie Wainman got in a big last bend hit on Dan Johnson to take fourth.

42 cars raced at the last tarmac round of the 2011 Shootout.  Heat 1 had 20 cars and 150 Mick Sworder carved his way through the field and was soon at the front, there was a stoppage midway through the race to allow assistance to 292 Terry Sparks who was stuck on the back straight. This allowed the grid to close and Mick Sworder led the restart off but had 217 Lee Fairhurst in close proximity, Lee was reeling in the leader and on the last lap saw his chance to pounce as Mick slowed down going down the back straight 217 nipped through and held off a last bend challenge to take the victory.

Heat 2 had 22 cars and there was a stoppage as early as lap 6 as 412 Gareth O'Beirne was in the fence on turn 3. On the restart 14 Roger Bromiley led the cars away but was soon overtaken by 447 Dave Hopkins who went on to record victory from 515 Frankie Wainman in second position.

The consolation had another low grade victory with Robert Broome taking the win from the previous evenings Final winner 434 Ivan Pritchard in second.

The Final was restarted due to a big pile up on turn 1 which involved 5 of the shootout drivers and they failed to restart due to the damage sustained. There was a caution on lap 4 to recover 21 Mark Gilbank who was perched on 73 Rob Cowley. 150 Mick Sworder was soon up through the grades and was in the lead with 8 laps to go and crossed the line in first place from Frankie Wainman in second and 16 Matt Newson in third. The steward then docked 4 drivers 2 places for jumping the start this included Mick and Matt so the 1-2-3 was now Frankie Wainman Tom Harris and Mick Sworder.

The final race of the day the GN and 150 Mick Sworder rounded off a consistent day for himself by taking the victory from Mark Gilbank in second and Dan Johnson in third who had worked wonders to get his car back out on track after the damage he sustained in the Final.

The meeting opened with the consolation semi-final event from which the first two drivers would take their place on the World Final grid.  337 Dave Willis led them away and he was in front for seven laps.  16 Matt Newson and 321 Ed Neachell were making good progress from near the rear of the grid and it was Ed who took the lead around half distance.  He was there for less than a lap when Matt went by on his way to victory with Ed in second.  217 Lee Fairhurst went third in the closing stages which was important because there was a non starter for the big race, 434 Ivan Pritchard, so Lee took his place.

Heat two was a relatively easy win for 150 Mick Sworder, he passed 103 Richard Masterson on lap six and shot away to the flag with 107 Lee Robinson in second.  The first consolation went to 460 Chris Cooke, he passed 392 Chad Evans on lap four and took the win ahead of Lee Fairhurst.  Consolation two had numerous leaders early on but 464 Luke Davidson moved ahead at half way before pulling away to win comfortably from 212 Danny Wainman.

Chris Cooke led away the meeting final but was passed on lap four by 37 Chris Cowley.  Chris opened up a good lead in an action packed race but a sick engine in the closing stages saw 84 Tom Harris move ahead to take victory with Chris in second and Danny Wainman third.

With so many cars in attendance two Grand Nationals were required.  12 Michael Scriven won the first and 390 Stuart Smith the second.

This was National Points Shootout round two.  The meeting opened with a white & yellow heat and the early leader was 505 Rob Tunnah with 290 Lee Warner in second spot.  276 Mark Poole was going well and moved ahead on lap eight but Rob regained the lead next time around with 111 Mike Williamson going second.  215 Geoff Nickolls was thirds and gaining and in went the bumper on the last bend leading to a drag for the line with Geoff the first across, albeit being pushed sideward by Mike & Rob.  1 Andrew Smith made light work of heat two, taking the flag well clear of 198 Nigel Whalley.  267 Graeme Robson had led the first half of the race.  118 Steve Harrison led heat three away but 97 Murray Harrison was on a charge, hitting the front on lap five and pulling away for a clear victory.  New Zealand driver Peter Rees ran second for a while but was passed by 2 Paul Harrison late on.  Shootout leader 84 Tom Harris had failed to qualify from his heat but made no mistake in the consolation.  He passed 321 Ed Neachell on lap seven and went on to win from 4 Dan Johnson.  258 Rob Harrad and 330 Graham Wagstaff had led the opening laps.

Graeme Robson led the first eight laps of the final before Murray Harrison moved ahead.   Andrew Smith was motoring well and hit the front on lap thirteen before taking a comfortable victory.  Behind him there were big hits galore and there were numerous positional changes over the last couple of laps with Dan Johnson & Tom Harris the eventual second and third.

208 Steve Malkin, 128 Bill Aldred and 158 James Clement all had brief spells ahead in the GN race but Mark Poole took the lead on lap five and was not troubled on his way to the flag,  Dan Johnson took second off 55 Craig Finnikin on the last bend.

Belle Vue August 29th 2011

The main event was the second World Championship Semi-final and this was won in fine style by 259 Paul Hines.  Tom Harris was first away but was passed on lap two by Matt Newson.  Two laps later 4 Dan Johnson moved ahead with Tom close behind.  There was a lot of action further down the field leading to two race cautions.  55 Craig Finnikin moved up to second around half distance.  Paul Hines began to gain on the lead pair, going second and then to the lead with four to run.  Paul then pulled away to record a comfortable victory with  Tom Harris second and Dan Johnson third.

The opening heat had several leaders in the first half of the race but then 335 Mark Woodhull hit the front and went on to take the flag with 390 Stuart Smith in second.  111 Mark Williamson led the consolation for much of its distance before Matt Newson caught him with four to run, Matt taking the flag with Mike still chasing an elusive first win.

Mike led the final until half distance.  Paul Hines was quick out of the blocks and passed Mike on lap ten and then took his second chequered of the night with 2 Paul Harrison and 1 Andrew Smith a distant second and third.

118 Steve Harrison and 198 Nigel Whalley led four laps each in the grand National event, Matt Newson was ahead for the next three and then Dan Johnson took over.  515 Frankie Wainman ran second until the last bend when he pushed Dan wide to take the win.

515 Frankie Wainman took the opening heat after a last bender on 22 Will Yarrow, 37Chris Cowley also nipped through for second.  Heat two went to 172 Micky Randell  from 212 Danny Wainman in second.  16 Matt Newson ( passed 392 Chad Evans at half distance before taking the flag from 84 Tom Harris.  A sterling drive from Chad saw him place fourth. The final had 229 Derek Brown ahead until half way when Will Yarrow went by.  A big pile up involving several shootout drivers brought out the yellows.  Soon afterwards 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard hit the front, going on to win with Tom Harris very close at the end and 217 Lee Fairhurst in third.  Derek Brown led the GN for the first six laps before Will Yarrow hit the front.  Matt Newson and Tom Harris chased hard but Will held them off to take the flag.

Skegness August 20th 2011

The meeting opened with a whites and yellows race and was won by 45 Nigel Harrhy.  285 Richard Earl chased him for much of the race but 41 Robert Broome moved into second near the end.  Richard & Nigel shared the lead in heat one until past half way when 22 Will Yarrow went ahead.  464 Luke Davidson moved up to second at the same time before stalking the 22 car until a last bend hit saw Luke take the flag by less than a car length with Will in second.  Will went one better in heat two, he passed early leader Richard Earl on lap four and saw off the challengers 161 Mark Allen, Luke Davidson and 84 Tom Harris to take victory with Tom runner up.

Nigel Harrhy led them away in the final before being passed by Mark Allen on lap five.  Will Yarrow moved into second but lost the place to Tom Harris around half distance.  Tom caught and passed the leader with three to run and then took the flag.  A determined drive from Mark Allen saw him finish runner up with world Champion 1 Andrew Smith in third.

Will Yarrow won the last race of the night, he took the lead on lap six and was well clear of Mark Allen at the flag.  A big hit by 16 Matt Newson on 150 Mick Sworder on the last bend netted third for Matt.

Heat one went to 45 Nigel Harrhy, his first ever F1 win.  Nigel led the race until two laps to run when he was passed by 150 Mick Sworder.  However Mick failed to present his car for post race scrutineering and was disqualified, handing the win to Nigel and second to 4 Dan Johnson.  161 Mark Allen passed early leader Nigel Harrhy on lap five of heat two and looked to be heading for victory until a fast moving Dan Johnson got by with three to run.  Dan took the win with 84 Tom Harris in second spot.

The final was led away by 234 Terry Pearce.  22 Will Yarrow moved ahead on lap six with 37 Chris Cowley and 484 Craig Utley close behind.  After a good battle between the three Chris emerged at the front and went on to win comfortably with Will in second and Craig in third.  The race was also notable for a lengthy tussle between 1 Andrew Smith and Mick Sworder.

The GN had 460 Chris Cooke ahead early on but Will Yarrow was soon past him.  Craig Utley and 73 Rob Cowley were next in line but Rob was able to force his way through to the front soon afterward, before taking the win with will in second.

Coventry August 6th 2011

The opening heat for whites and yellows was won by 2009 Novice of the Year 192 Luke Dennis.  He led from start to finish, fending off the challenge of 258 Rob Harrad, 103 Richard Masterson and the eventual runner up 198 Nigel Whalley.  World Champion 1 Andrew Smith won heat two, he moved ahead on lap ten after 307 Tim Warwick had set the early pace.  55 Craig Finnikin took second, passing 22 Will Yarrow on the last lap.  Rob Harrad led the first five laps of heat three before being passed by 105 Chris Bonner.  4 Dan Johnson and 21 Mark Gilbank were making good progress from the rear of the grid and they moved into first & second with just three laps remaining.  505 Rob Tunnah led the consolation until past half distance when he was passed by 215 Geoff Nickolls.  97 Murray Harrison moved into second and found a way past Geoff in the closing stages to take the win.

The final saw a first lap roll over by 280 Colin Nairn and on the re-start it was 208 Steve Malkin who was first to show.  Geoff Nickolls and 335 Mark Woodhull then had spells ahead before Andrew Smith moved ahead around half distance.  84 Tom Harris moved into second with five to run but could make no impression on Andrew’s lead so the World Champion took victory from Tom in second and third was Chris Bonner who passed Mark Woodhull on the last lap.

98 Les Spencer led the Grand National for much of its distance but he was gradually reeled in by 16 Matt Newson who took the lead with five laps to run.  Matt took the flag from Tom Harris in second.

The main event was the first World Championship Semi-final race and this was won in fine style by 2 Paul Harrison.  The bumpers went in hard on the first bend, pole sitter 515 Frankie Wainman rattled around the fence but got away into a good lead with Paul Harrison in pursuit.  There was a caution on lap three as 141 Carl Pickering rolled.  Frankie led away the re-start but Paul was by him on lap six only for Frankie to regain the lead next time around.  Paul wasn’t finished though and he moved ahead again two laps later and this time Frankie could not get back on terms and had to be content with second.  A sterling drive from 12 Michael Scriven saw him home in third.

The opening heat went to 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard who went ahead just before half distance and took the flag ahead of 217 Lee Fairhurst.  85 Iain Holden and 246 Ian Brickley had made the early running.  The consolation saw 45 Nigel Harrhy lead for the first nine laps before being caught and passed by 35 Neil Shenton, who took the win with Nigel hanging on for second.

Nigel led them away in the final but was soon passed by 73 Rob Cowley, who was chased hard by 484 Craig Utley.  22 Will Yarrow moved into second around half way but lost the place to 390 Stuart Smith on lap fourteen.  Stuart passed Rob to take the lead with three to run and Will moved up to second.  An all action last bend saw lots of changes and although Stuart took the win comfortably Rob and Will were pushed out of contention and it was 1 Andrew Smith who came through as runner up with Craig Utley in third.

Andrew went one better by winning the Grand National, passing long time leader Iain Holden on lap ten.  Craig Utley completed a good meeting for him with second spot.

Birmingham July 23rd 2011

This was the final qualifying meeting to determine the twelve drivers who would progress to the National Points Shootout.  Going into the meeting the drivers in the first nine positions were assured of qualification but there were several drivers who could fill the last three places.  In the end it was 197 Ryan Harrison who moved up leaving 259 Paul Hines & 464 Luke Davidson tying for last place.  This necessitated a four lap run off for those two which Luke won by millimetres after a last bend hit on the 259 car.

390 Stuart Smith won the opening heat after 460 Chris Cooke and 85 Iain Holden had led earlier.  55 Craig Finnikin went second late on.  141 Carl Pickering took the second heat comfortably from 150 Mick Sworder in second.  462 Scott Davids won both the consolation and the meeting final, leading from early on.  Craig Finnikin went for an unsuccessful last bender in the final but took second with Mick Sworder in third.  Iain Holden led the GN four much of its distance before being passed by Paul Hines who looked to be heading for a comfortable victory until he tangled with a back marker allowing 84 Tom Harris through to win, Iain Holden being the runner up.

Northampton July 17th 2011

The  meeting opened with the race for the European Championship and this was won in fine style by 150 Mick Sworder.  The early leader was Belgian driver 347 Patrick Kessells.  Mick Sworder started on row six of the grid and was quickly into second before passing the leader on lap six.  Mick then drove away to victory, 2 Paul Harrison moved into second with five to run but could not haul in the leader.  Paul was subsequently disqualified for failing post race scrutineering, as was third placed Patrick Kessells.  This elevated 148 Danny Smidt to second and 22 Will Yarrow to third.

Heat one was won by 195 Dean Whitwell who led for all but the first three laps.  Mick Sworder moved into second late on but Dean was well clear at the flag.  460 Chris Cooke led the first five laps of heat two but 217 Lee Fairhurst then took a lead he would keep until the flag,  191 Josh Smith ran second for much of the race but lost the position to 515 Frankie Wainman in the closing stages.  73 Rob Cowley was the consolation leader until four to go when eventual winner 84 Tom Harris went by with Rob hanging on for second.  390 Stuart Smith suffered a flat tyre when in second and looking strong.

Chris Cooke, rob Cowley and 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard all had spells in the lead in the final but Mick Sworder was once again in a determined mood and he hit the front around half distance.  217 Lee Fairhurst moved into second about the same time but could make no impression on the leader so Mick took his second win of the day, Lee second and 55 Craig Finnikin was third.

45 Nigel Harrhy and 233 Lee Pearce were the early leaders in the Grand National event but a fast moving Craig Finnikin took the lead on lap six and then the chequered with Frankie Wainman runner up.

Northampton July 16 th 2011

Day one of the European weekend meeting and there was a good number of overseas drivers in the pits. Heat one had 26 cars and was stopped early on for a coming together between 91 Tony Smith and 300 Paul Carter on the home straight. 45 Nigel Harrhy led from the restart but 195 Dean Whitwell took over and went on to win .

Heat two had 28 starters H9 Jack Coenen led for a long time but then went out on turn 3 with 246 Ian Brickley and then 321 Ed Neachell was on a charge to the front and went on to win from 16 Matt Newson and 212 Danny Wainman. The consolation was stopped early on for H6 Gert Jan Keijzer climbed up over H36 Paul Hermkens. 85 Iain Holden was in the lead and he held this lead up to 1 lap to go when there was another stoppage for H365 Joep Hendriks and 431 Ian Bond in the Armco. On the restart 85 Iain Holden took the victory from 55 Craig Finnikin.

The final grid had  28 cars and only had 1 stoppage and that was for 484 Craig Utley being out on turn two on the racing line. The win went to 462 Scott Davids who hit the front early on in the race and was never caught Craig Finnikin finished second but failed post race scrutineering and was subsequently removed from the results, this meant 212 Danny Wainman moved up a place to second and 447 Dave Hopkins was third.

The GN had a stoppage early on for 431 Ian Bond being in the armco on his side and 51 Dylan Williams – Maynard being entangled up with him. 85 Iain Holden took over at the front early but was overhauled by 16 Matt Newson in the closing stages.  Matt was subsequently disqualified when he failed post race scrutineering giving the win to Iain with 150 Mick Sworder now in second.

Skegness July 10th  2011

With a number of cars lost from the Saturday session, the decision was taken to run whites and yellows in both heats, assuming they had not qualified from heat one. 45 Nigel Harrhy led away heat one but was headed by 285 Richard Earl on three.  217 Lee Fairhurst flying and up to third by lap four. 73 Rob Cowley took the lead on seven but had to give best to Lee a lap later.  464 Luke Davidson was making good progress and took the lead as the lap boards came out and Lee Fairhurst was on the receiving end of a big hit from 462 Scott Davids. This promoted 246 Ian Brickley to second but he lost out to 515 Frankie Wainman in the closing stages.

Heat two saw 235 John Weldon lead them away but he was headed on lap three by a fast moving 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard. 259 Paul Hines and 84 Tom Harris were making good progress from the back of the grid and dropped into second and third. The blue top youngster was away though and not to be caught with Paul holding off Tom for second.

Richard Earl led away the consolation which needed a caution on lap three.  Scott Davids was second on the restart and into the lead a lap later. Lee Fairhurst was closing fast and got in a big payback hit on the leader to take the lead on lap seven. Rob Cowley was running second but 153 James Lund got by him as the lap boards came out and then 53 John Lund claimed third in the closing stages.

With no whites on the grid for the final  it was left to Ian Brickley to lead them away, a lead he was to hold until three to run. Rob Cowley was second with Scott Davids soon third and 150 Mick Sworder leading the red top charge. Scott Davids moved into second with 16 Matt Newson on a charge to take third by half distance. Matt gradually closed in on the leader and made his move with three to go and Scott Davids also got by. The lead pair then got away with the gap between them unchanging over the last couple of laps. Scott went for the big last bend assault and missed. He clattered round the Armco to hold on for second with Ian Brickley third.

Last race of the day saw another win for Dylan Williams-Maynard who overcame early leader Ian Brickley on lap ten. Tom Harris put in his best performance on a rather lack-lustre day by claiming second spot with two to run with James Lund coming home third.

235 John Weldon led away heat one from 45 Nigel Harrhy and 246 Ian Brickley. Ian took up the running on five with 150 Mick Sworder second and 217 Lee Fairhurst in third. Mick eased Ian wide for the lead just before half way as the superstars delayed each other swapping places on a regular basis. Lee Fairhurst got by Ian Brickley into second but Mick Sworder was away and gone on his way to the chequered. .

With whites in both heats it was 287 Sean Willis who led away heat two before Nigel Harrhy took over a lap later with 73 Rob Cowley slotting into second.  Nigel was still leading at half distance with 464 Luke Davidson closing fast in second with Rob Cowley third.  Luke spun out the leader with 16 Matt Newson coming through into second before retiring with a puncture. 2 Paul Harrison got by Rob Cowley in the closing stages for second.

Sean Willis and then Nigel Harrhy led away the consolation before Ian Brickley stormed to the front on four with 41 Robert Broome second a lap later.  Matt Newson was flying from the back of the grid and made second on lap seven. With five to run it was still Ian from Matt but the gap closed considerably and it was the Norfolk superstar who got by to take the chequered.

Nigel Harrhy led away the final from Sean Willis with Rob Cowley making a very good start from yellow. Rob Cowley took up the running with Ian Brickley second and 217 Lee Fairhurst third.  84 Tom Harris eased into second. With four to run, Tom got by the leader and drove off into the distance for the win with Lee Fairhurst second and 1 Andy Smith picking up third as Rob Cowley disappeared on the last bend.

Nigel Harrhy again led away the last race of the night which needed an early caution for 11 Neil Scriven who had been involved in a home straight shunt. Lee Fairhurst moved ahead on seven with Rob Cowley second and 515 Frankie Wainman up to third. 259 Paul Hines got by Junior in the closing stages with Tom Harris coming through for fifth from the lap handicap.

The meeting opened with a heat for whites & yellows only and was won by 215 Geoff Nickolls.  45 Nigel Harrhy led for the first ten laps before Geoff found a way past on his way to the flag with 35 Neil Shenton in second.  Heat 2 was for the Annual Trust Fund Race, open to red top drivers only.  21 Mark Gilbank led from start to finish, he was chased hard by 197 Ryan Harrison for the first half of the race but then pulled away to win comfortably with 1 Andrew Smith the runner up and 259 Paul Hines in third.  307 Tim Warwick was the early leader in heat three, 118 Steve Harrison passed him around half distance.  198 Nigel Whalley took the lead on lap twelve and 105 Chris Bonner went second soon afterwards and that’s how they finished.  394 Chris Clare led them away in the consolation.  446 Joe Booth was making good progress and with five to run Joe hit the front.  98 Les Spencer moved to second but Joe was well in control and took the win with Les in second place.

Nigel Harrhy led the final away before an early caution saw Neil Shenton take over.  97 Murray Harrison slotted into second at half way with 2 Paul Harrison the leader of the star men.  With three to run Murray caught and passed the leader but was pushed out by Paul on the next bend.  Paul went on to victory with Neil in second and 55 Craig Finnikin in third.

111 Mike Williamson led the opening laps of the Grand National but Ryan Harrison was on a charge and ahead by lap five,  84 Tom Harris moved up to second on lap seven but could not catch the 197 car.

Belle Vue June 26th 2011

This was the last World Championship Qualifying round and 35 Neil Shenton made sure of a place on a Semi-final grid when he won heat one.  He led for all but the opening lap and was well clear at the flag,  1 Andrew Smith and 515 Frankie Wainman battled for second but Frankie tangled late on meaning Andrew took the runner up spot.  45 Nigel Harrhy led heat two away but was overhauled by 192 Luke Dennis on lap five.  2 Paul Harrison was soon on the leading bunch and he moved ahead around half distance with 22 Will Yarrow in second.  Paul went on to win with 97 Murray Harrison going second late on.  The consolation saw 48 Garry Fox ahead for twelve laps before a fast moving 197 Ryan Harrison went by.  55 Craig Finnikin was in second but a late race tangle saw him drop down the places, 390 Stuart Smith taking second.

Garry Fox led the first six laps of the final but Stuart Smith then went by with Craig Finnikin close behind.  Craig found away past with five to run but Stuart was back on him the next bend and into the lead with Paul Harrison now second.  Paul could not close the gap so victory went to Stuart, Paul second and Andrew Smith third.

394 Chris Clare led the opening laps of the Grand National before 34 Mal Brown went by on lap five.  Two laps later 4 Dan Johnson moved into a lead he would keep until the flag with Andrew Smith in second.

Northampton June 19th  2011

Heat One went the way of 195 Dean Whitwell.  He took the lead on the second lap and roared away to victory.  84 Tom Harris & 464 Luke Davidson chased in vain and although Dean took the win by a clear margin the gap between Tom and Luke could not have been closer, Tom taking second by one 1000th of a second.

Dean also won heat two, he passed early leader 141 Carl Pickering on lap three.  Tom was again second but by a much smaller margin this time.

431 Ian Bond and then 91 Tony Smith led the early stages of the final before 161 Mark Allen went by.  37 Chris Cowley moved into second.  Tom Harris was making good progress from the rear of the grid, he moved into second place on lap thirteen and to the lead a lap later before taking a comfortable victory with Chris runner up and Mark in third spot.

The last race of the day saw 45 Nigel Harrhy lead briefly before being passed by Carl Pickering.  150 Mick Sworder took over on lap six but mechanical problems saw him sidelined leaving Chris Cowley ahead.  Luke Davidson was running second and he took over at the front with three to run.  Chris wasn’t finished though and put in the bumper on turn one of the last lap to take the lead and then the flag with 259 Paul Hines in second.

Ipswich June 18th  2011

Twenty-seven cars made the annual trip to Ipswich for the last tarmac qualifying round and it was that man 84 Tom Harris who took the major honours on the night. Running to an all-in format, Tom took the first heat after taking the lead with four to run from 195 Dean Whitwell. Dean had led from lap two after lone white top 252 Paul Redfern had led them away. 107 Lee Robinson was leading the red top charge with Tom Harris no far behind and the pair got by second placeman 22 Will Yarrow before half distance. Tom nudged Lee wide and gradually closed in on the leader. With three to go Lee moved into second but Tom was away and gone.

Paul Redfern led away heat two but this time was soon headed by 246 Ian Brickley. Will Yarrow and 150 Mick Sworder made good starts from blue and were soon second and third with Lee Robinson up to fourth by lap four which was the position at half distance. Lee went to put the leader wide on turn one of the last lap but got it wrong but he made no mistake on the next bend clattering the 246 hard into the fence for a DNF for the long time leader. Mick Sworder came home second.

The final was all about one man – Tom Harris – who took the lead on lap seven and was a clear half lap in front of the second placeman at the chequered. Carl Pickering had been the early leader ahead of 172 Micky Randell  with a fast starting 321 Ed Neachell third on lap two. Ed was passed by 259 Paul Hines a lap later. Tom Harris was really moving and got by Lee Robinson and Paul Hines into second spot on lap five. Lee got by Paul  but Tom was gone. As the chequered dropped it was Tom Harris from Lee Robinson from Paul Hines who then lost his third place after failing post-race weighing. This promoted Dan Johnson into third.

An early caution in the last race of the night for 300 Paul Carter who had hit the turn one fence hard saw Mick Sworder close right up behind early leader Carl Pickering. On the restart Mick took his chance and moved into the lead. Will Yarrow and Chris Cowley were also going well as was Lee Robinson who was sixth at half distance. Lee then set about catching the leader knocking all and sundry aside but he could not catch the leader.

Kings Lynn June 11th 2011

Congratulations to 2 Paul Harrison on winning the Goodyear Tyres British Drivers Championship at the Norfolk Arena.  Paul started the final on pole position after good results in the qualifying heats but a first bend melee saw him relegated well down the places and 390 Stuart Smith as race leader.  Paul fought his way back steadily as Stuart’s lead was eroded by a couple of cautions.  As the race entered the last quarter Paul was running second and gaining on the leader.  On turn one of the last lap Paul pushed Stuart out wide and moved ahead.  An ambitious last bender from Stuart failed to connect so Paul took the chequered with 4 Dan Johnson the runner up and 515 Frankie Wainman in third.

Frankie won the opening heat from 84 Tom Harris after 330 Graham Wagstaff had led for much of the race.  214 Adam Slater had a flag to flag win in heat two from 215 Geoff Nickolls in second whilst the star men battled each other for the minor placings.  235 John Weldon led heat three for seven laps before 394 Chris Clare took over.  With the chequered flag in sight Paul Harrison pushed Chris wide to take the win with Chris hanging on for second.  48 Garry Fox led heat four until five to run when Stuart Smith powered past on his way to victory with Dan Johnson in second.  Defending Champion 259 Paul Hines had a bad night until heat five when a determined drive saw him take the win from Tom Harris.

103 Richard Masterson and 214 Adam Slater shared the lead in the early laps of heat one but 215 Geoff Nickolls was on a charge, eventually moving ahead with four to run before taking the flag with Adam in second.  Heat two was a flag to flag victory for 48 Garry Fox, 104 Paul Spooner finishing second.  Behind them there was a good battle for third between 2 Paul Harrison and 4 Dan Johnson with Paul getting the verdict by millimetres and further back 197 Ryan Harrison and 446 Joe Booth had a good tussle for fifth.  111 Mike Williamson led the first nine laps of the third heat before being passed by 3 Chris Fort.   Chris, in the 434 Ivan Pritchard car, was making his first appearance in F1 for a few years but drove away to win comfortably from 462 Scott Davids.    267 Graeme Robson was the early leader in the consolation with 335 Mark Woodhull in pursuit.  Mark took the lead briefly late on but 84 Tom Harris passed him soon afterwards to take the victory from Mark in second spot.

In the final Garry Fox led until past half way, 192 Luke Dennis ran second for a while and then Mark Woodhull passed Luke.  Ryan Harrison moved up to second at half way and to the lead a lap later but Garry came back at him to re-take the lead.  Ryan was ahead again next time around and 515 Frankie Wainman moved into second at this time.  With three to run Frankie found a way past Ryan but a big hit on the next bend saw Ryan ahead again and he duly took the flag with Frankie second and 97 Murray Harrison in third.

120 Steven Anderson led them away in the Grand National, Luke Dennis led briefly and then Adam Slater took the lead.  55 Craig Finnikin was moving quickly and with two to run he passed Adam, taking the win with Paul Harrison in second.

390 Stuart Smith was a three times winner and 515 Frankie Wainman took the other two races.  In heat one Stuart was ahead before half distance after 111 Mike Williamson and 238 Richard Bryan had set the early pace.  55 Craig Finnikin was second.  Frankie won heat two, moving ahead with five to run with again Mike Williamson the early leader.  16 Matt Newson finished as runner up.  424 Mike Heywood led away the third heat but Stuart Smith was quick out of the blocks and inherited the lead when Mike spun on lap six.  321 Ed Neachell was second but could make no impression on Stuart’s lead.

88 Phil Whitaker led the final for the first five laps before 322 James Neachell moved to the front.  James opened up a good lead but a flat tyre with three to run saw him slow, allowing Frankie Wainman to take over.  Frankie took the win with Stuart Smith second and Craig Finnikin third.

In the Grand National race 198 Nigel Whalley was ahead until he was passed by Stuart Smith just before half way.  Stuart romped away to win with Craig Finnikin in second.

Kings Lynn May 28th 2011

A cracking meeting at the Norfolk Arena which opened with the usual race for whites & yellows.  This was won by 422 Dave Riley who led from start with 11 Neil Scriven the runner up.  A determined drive from 515 Frankie Wainman saw him take the opening heat with Neil Scriven again second, 48 Garry Fox had led for much of the race.  214 Adam Slater led them off in heat two but a flying 197 Ryan Harrison moved ahead on lap six and scored a comfortable win.  Behind him there were some great battles for places between several star men and it was 55 Craig Finnikin second at the flag.  Adam Slater had his first ever victory in the consolation, leading from the off but again there was action aplenty behind the leader, notably the battle between 97 Murray Harrison and 212 Danny Wainman.  Danny took second as Murray’s car went sick  just metres before the flag.

446 Joe Booth won the final by a big margin after moving to the lead on lap four.  Once again the star men were involved in a great battle for the places but come the chequered it was yellow top 104 Paul Spooner in second with 16 Matt Newson third.

215 Geoff Nickolls and Neil Scriven shared the lead in the early part of the Grand National.  84 Tom Harris moved ahead with five to run with Frankie Wainman close behind.  Frankie tried a last bend hit but Tom rode it well to take the win with Frankie second.

Buxton May 23rd  2011

This started as pretty much the 84 Tom Harris show as he won both heats one and two with relative ease.  Robert Broome and Mick Sworder led heat one to begin with but Tom moved ahead on lap nine, Mick taking second place.  Heat two again had Robert Broome as early leader but as Mick Sworder challenged for the lead the pair crashed out leaving 464 Luke Davidson ahead.  However Tom was soon past Luke and that is how they stayed until the flag.

With Tom being so domineering in the first two races the question on everyone’s lips for the final was who would be second.  Again is was Robert Broome and Mick Sworder the first to show before Tom Harris moved ahead on lap six.  107 Lee Robinson went second about the same time.  Lee chased hard and eventually found a way past but Tom stayed with him and was able to regain the lead with three to run.  Lee wasn’t finished though and a good hit on the 84 car bumper on turn one of the last lap saw him ahead.  Tom tried a last bender but Lee held it to take the win with Tom second and Lee Fairhurst third.

Tom made no mistakes in the last race of the afternoon, he moved ahead before half distance after Robert Broome and 300 Paul Carter had led earlier.  Mick Sworder ran second for much of the race but 16 Matt Newson just pipped him late on.

84 Tom Harris took the opening heat.  He passed early leader 372 Colin Goodswen around half distance.  16 Matt Newson moved up to second with four to run but could make no impression on the leader.  The second heat was won by 422 Dave Riley who led from start to finish.  45 Nigel Harrhy chased him for the first five laps, then 150 Mick Sworder took up the challenge, to no avail.  Nigel Harrhy led them away in the consolation with 195 Dean Whitwell close behind.  22 Will Yarrow took the lead on lap five with 464 Luke Davidson slotting into second.  Will was under pressure from Luke the whole race but kept his nerve to take the flag.

126 Neil Turner led the opening laps of the final, then Colin Goodswen went by.  Mick Sworder was soon second and then in front just past half way.  Tom Harris was making quick progress from the rear of the grid.  It took Tom until three to run to catch and pass Mick, before taking the win from Mick and with 217 Lee Fairhurst in third spot.

Neil Turner led the first three laps of the GN but was then passed by Colin Goodswen.  Colin romped away to the chequered with 41 Robert Broome the runner up.

Skegness May 15th  2011

Four heats took place to determine the qualifiers for the UK Open Championship final.  372 Colin Goodswen led the opening heat from fag to flag.  There were some interesting battles going on behind him and it was 37 Chris Cowley in the runner up spot at the end.  126 Neil Turner led the second heat for all but the last lap.  84 Tom Harris was quickly away from the star men but it took him all the race to catch the 126 car, which he did at the end, Neil hanging on for second.  Tom took the third heat, again decided on the last lap.  51 Dylan Williams-Maynard had led much of the race but had to settle for second this time.  Colin Goodswen looked like taking another win in heat four but 150 Mick Sworder had other ideas, catching and passing the leader with three to run.  The consolation had 365 Joop Hendriks ahead until the last lap.  Five cars were all together going into the last bend and it was 41 Robert Broome who emerged as the winner with Joop in second.

The top 33 cars of the day gridded for the UK Open final.  Colin Goodswen was a pre-race favourite, given his front row start, although for many Tom Harris was the likely winner from row seven.  As the green dropped Colin was ahead with 161 Mark Allen soon slotting in behind.  Tom Harris was motoring well and he hit the front around half distance with 217 Lee Fairhurst in second spot.  Tom seemed to be pulling away and heading for a comfortable win until disaster struck in the form of a broken diff, thus ending his race.  Lee Fairhurst inherited the lead and made no mistakes on his way to victory, despite being under pressure from 16 Matt Newson who finished as runner up with Colin Goodswen taking third.

Skegness May 14th  2011

The World Championship qualifier saw some fast, furious and at times frightening racing.. Newcomer 126 Neil Turner led for the first half of a quick heat one.  150 Mick Sworder made a good start and was up to third by lap five and second a lap later. 84 Tom Harris was also on a charge and in third by half distance.  Mick hit the front from Tom and Tom made his move as the laps wound down and pulled away from Mick,  was not finished though and launched an audacious last bend challenge only to miss the 84 back bumper completely allowing Neil Turner through for second.

287 Sean Willis led away heat two but Dutch visitor 365 Joop Hendriks was soon by with 41 Robert Broome in close contention. Broome got by on lap six but the lead was short lived as Hendriks got by again to retake the lead. 12 Michael Scriven had made a good start and was up to third by half distance., moving into second and then the lead with four to run with a fast finishing 217 Ron Kroonder coming through for second with Hendriks third. Heat three proved to be a flag to flag victory for 372 Colin Goodswen with 393 Dave Plumbley second for much of the race. 153 James Lund was up to third at half way and finally got by Plumbley with two to run.

422 Dave Riley led away the consolation  with 195 Dean Whitwell slotting into second. 172 Micky Randell had made a good start and eased into second with 197 Ryan Harrison third. As the laps wound down the first four were altogether and as the leader drifted wide Randell, Harrison and 217 Lee Fairhurst were through. Randell seemed to have the race in the bag but Harrison had other ideas and the last bend lunge put them both wide allowing Lee Fairhurst to slip though on the inside to take the win.

The final got away at a furious pace with all thirty-four on track seemingly intent on winning the race but it was Goodswen who was away as 515 Frankie Wainman and 1 Andrew Smith were exchanging blows with 4 Dan Johnson also piling in on Wainman.  Goodswen collided with a back marker coming out of turn four leaving the following pack with nowhere to go leading to a multi-car pile up. It was 22 Will Yarrow who led them away from the caution with Randell second and James Lund third. Tom Harris made a clean start and was soon second and by Yarrow a lap later. Lund got by Yarrow as did Johnson as the pace and the action continued. Wainman had come out on top of his skirmish with Smith but Harris was away and gone to the flag ahead of Lund and Johnson.

Goodswen recorded another flag to flag win in the frantic last race of the night only to lose it when he failed post-race weighing. This gifted the win to Mick Sworder, his first in Formula One.

Coventry May 7th  2011

The opening heat was for whites & yellows only and it was 330 Graham Wagstaff who made the early running.  In fact by half distance Waggy had opened up a good lead and looked to be heading for victory until a race caution closed up the field.   11 Neil Scriven took the lead with four to run with 215 Geoff Nickolls close behind and that is how they finished, Neil’s advantage being only a few inches.  422 Dave Riley led heat two for much of the distance before 197 Ryan Harrison moved ahead in the closing stages.  84 Tom Harris was running second and 1 Andrew Smith third.  On the last bend Andrew tried to push both wide, Ryan spun but Tom kept going to take the win with the World Champ the runner up.

Newcomer 290 Lee Warner was the early leader in heat three before 276 Mark Poole went by.  Behind Mark there was a good battle between 98 Les Spencer and 446 Joe Booth with Les hitting the front with four to run.  Joe did not give up and by now 321 Ed Neachell was in the mix and the 321 car took the lead next time around.  Les tried to regain his lead but it all went wrong and Joe was there to nip through to the flag followed by 259 Paul Hines.   104 Paul Spooner led the first half of the consolation before 22 Will Yarrow took over.  335 Mark Woodhull was second and tried a last bender which delayed the pair enough for 4 Dan Johnson to nip through for the win with Will taking second.

Final time and the rain was falling heavily meaning the last two races took place in less than ideal conditions.  All credit to the drivers and track staff for keeping the show going.  The race had several leaders and cars were spinning out regularly.  Andrew Smith took advantage of a turn one pile up to take a lead he would keep to the flag.  There were plenty of battles for the other places and at the end 515 Frankie Wainman was in second and 2 Paul Harrison in third.

It was even wetter for the last race of the evening but one driver seemed to master the conditions better than most.  He was Ryan Harrison who moved ahead as early as lap three and did not put a wheel wrong, racing away to a resounding win with Frankie Wainman a distant second.

Sheffield May 2nd 2011

55 Craig Finnikin took the opening heat, passing 22 Will Yarrow in the closing stages, Will hanging on for second.  238 Richard Bryan had led for most of the first half of the race.  The second heat saw 45 Nigel Harrhy lead them off but 446 Joe Booth was soon past him into a lead he would keep until the flag.  Will Yarrow chased hard but 21 Mark Gilbank passed Will with three to go to take the runner up spot.   111 Mike Williamson led for ten laps in heat three before 16 Matt Newson went by.  On turn one of the last 515 Frankie Wainman pushed Matt wide to take the win with Craig Finnikin in second

Mike Williamson led for ten laps of the final but rolled whilst trying to pass a back marker.  428 Richard ran second for the first half of the race but Craig Finnikin went second around half distance and inherited the lead as the 111 car rolled out of contention.  World Champion 1 Andrew Smith had a bad start to the race but came good late on, picking off the opposition until he finally caught Craig with three to run.  Andrew moved ahead and took the win from Craig in second and 84 Tom Harris in third.

In the last race of the afternoon 35 Neil Shenton led from the off with Richard Bryan behind him.  Will Yarrow eventually caught the leader before despatching him fencewards to take victory with 390 Stuart Smith in second.

Kings Lynn April 30th 2011

In the opening Whites and Yellows race 422 Dave Riley opened up an early half lap lead as second place man 223 Garry Townsend collected the tyres and 330 Graham Wagstaff  and 235 John Weldon had a coming together. John and 267 Graeme Robson then clashed leaving both in the fence as 48 Garry Fox closed in on second placed 307 Tim Warwick. Garry  was second with three to run but Riley was long gone on his way to the chequered.

Tim Warwick led away heat one but was soon headed by John Weldon. 2 Paul Harrsion put in an early hit on 22 Will Yarrow which saw Harrison then retire and 105 Chris Bonner went in on hard on Fox.  380 Steven Cayzer moved into second on lap five but lost out to a fast moving 197 Ryan Harrison. Bonner then put Cayzer wide for third and then second as Harrison went wide. Harrison regained the place as the lap boards came out with 55 Craig Finnikin easing into third. Weldon drifted wide and Harrison was through and 515 Frankie Wainman nudged Finnikin aside to take second at the flag.

Robson led away heat two from 351 John Frost but an early caution was needed for the stricken 288 Simon Panton.  441 John Lawn got the drop on the restart and took the lead followed by 215 Geoff Nickolls and 16 Matt Newson. Newson went second on lap five and Yarrow hit Nickolls hard. Wainman and 4 Dan Johnson tangled leaving Junior on the infield. With five to run it was still Lawn from Newson in a home-grown battle but it was Newson who was to come out on top as Lawn half spun. Yarrow came home second with Paul Harrison third.

Heat three in the two-thirds format saw Riley the early leader with 415 Russell Cooper soon second. Bonner spun Newson as the Norfolk based driver went by with Cayzer moving into second on six. Riley got caught up in the back markers and Cayzer took his chance. 259 Paul Hines and 446 Joe Booth were in a battle for second and as the pair clashed 84 Tom Harris got through. At the flag it was Cayzer from Harris from Hines as the trio crossed the line in a close finish.

335 Mark Woodhull and Frankie Wainman pulled off before the start of the final leaving twenty cars on track and it was Matt Newson who stamped his authority on proceedings after taking the lead on lap six. Weldon had been the early leader but a caution on lap five for Frost, who had been put in hard by Newson, closed up the field behind him. Yarrow returned the hit on Paul Harrison on the restart and Cayzer disposed of Bonner and as Weldon went wide Joe Booth with Cayzer in tow made it into the top three. The gaps between the leaders stayed the same through the second half of the race with third placed Cayzer under pressure from Harrison. Newson took the win though with Dan Johnson rounding out the top five.

Chris Bonner took victory in the last race of the night but was docked two places for jumping a restart in the closing stages thus gifting the win to Paul Harrison. Dan Johnson was elevated to second with Bonner relegated to third and the Wainmans – Frankie and 212 Danny – fourth and fifth respectively.

Belle Vue  April 25th 2011

Once again Belle Vue did not disappoint, the meeting being full of incidents.   In heat one 55 Crag Finnikin was ahead as early as lap three but with only two to run he crashed out handing the win to 84 Tom Harris with 212 Danny Wainman runner up.  422 Dave Riley led away heat two but was passed by 446 Joe Booth on lap five.  The chasing pack tried hard to get on terms but Joe drove well to take the win from 390 Stuart Smith.  World Champion 1 Andrew Smith had pulled off with mechanical troubles in his heat but made no mistake in the consolation, taking the lead from 351 John Frost around half distance.  Craig Finnikin was second.

88 Phil Whitaker led the opening laps of the final and then it was the turn of 35 Neil Shenton.  463 James Morris moved ahead on lap six and romped away to victory as the star men battled behind him.  515 Frankie Wainman finished second with Stuart Smith in third.

111 Mike Williamson, John Frost and Dave Riley all had spells in the lead in the Grand National event but they had to give way to the star train in the second half of the race.  At the flag it was Craig Finnikin from Frankie Wainman.

126 Neil Turner led heat one from start to finish, 372 Colin Goodswen ran second for much of the race but 321 Ed Neachell moved up with three to run. 16 Matt Newson passed Ed on the last bend to take the runner up position.  287 Sean Willis led away heat two but was passed by Colin Goodswen on lap three.  191 Josh Smith was second until he was sidelined with a flat late on, leaving 84 Tom Harris in second but he was a quarter of a lap adrift of the leader and had to be content with second at the flag behind the 372 car.   In the consolation 300 Paul Carter led the first half of the race before 322 James Neachell went by.    Josh Smith went second soon after but could not make the challenge, James taking the win from Josh.

The final had Neil Turner ahead for six laps when Colin Goodswen went by.  The race was full of incidents and two cautions were called.  464 Luke Davidson hit the front with four to run and took the flag ahead of Tom Harris.  However Luke was docked two places for jumping the first re-start, handing the win to Tom with Matt Newson elevated to second.

Matt won the Grand National.  He was ahead before half distance and romped home well clear of second placed 217 Lee Fairhurst.

51 Dylan Williams-Maynard won the opening heat.  He moved ahead on lap three and was well clear of 464 Luke Davidson at the chequered.  422 Dave Riley and 460 Chris Cooke were the early leaders in heat two before 16 Matt Newson moved ahead on lap six.  4 Dan Johnson went second soon afterwards and set about chasing the leader who he caught and passed with four to run, Dan the winner, Matt second.  153 James Lund passed leader 422 Dave Riley at half distance, going on to win from 217 Lee Fairhurst.  300 Paul Carter rolled on the line at the finish.

James Lund and 484 Craig Utley had a good battle in the final, the lead changed hands several times between the pair as 2 Paul Harrison steadily closed the gap.  Paul found a way through with three to run, taking the flag from 515 Frankie Wainman who just pipped James Lund on the last lap.

James took the last race of the day after a successful last bender on Dylan Williams-Maynard who had led from the start,  Dylan taking second place.

322 James Neachell took the lead on lap six of the opening heat after 223 Garry Townsend and 422 Dave Riley had led earlier.  16 Matt Newson moved into second in the closing stages but James had a good lead and Matt could not close the gap.  Garry Townsend led away heat two and kept in front for the whole race.  85 Iain Holden caught him  on the last bend but Garry held on to win by a car length.  300 Paul Carter led for much of the consolation race until he was overhauled by 73 Rob Cowley with three to run.  434 Ivan Pritchard had been making good progress and he was able to push Rob wide on the last bend to take the win by the narrowest of margins with Rob second.

Garry Townsend was the early leader in the final, until 60 Ian Venables went by on lap eight.  There was a caution on lap sixteen when Garry rolled after a tangle with 484 Craig Utley.  Matt Newson took the lead soon after and went on to take the flag from Ivan Pritchard who had passed Ian Venables on the last.

Paul Carter led the Grand National until four to run when 84 Tom Harris went by.  Tom took the win with Paul hanging on for second.

85 Iain Holden soon passed early leader 238 Richard Bryan in heat one.  515 Frankie Wainman was making good progress from the rear of the grid and he took the lead on lap ten, going on to win with 434 Ivan Pritchard in second.  484 Craig Utley led heat two for much of its distance but with just three laps to go 21 Mark Gilbank went by.  Matt Newson passed him on the next lap but Mark stayed in contention, executing a last bender to take the flag with Matt in second.  60 Ian Venables was first past the flag in the consolation but was adjudged to have jumped the start and was docked two places.  This handed the win to Stuart Smith but he failed scrutineering so the eventual victor was 12 Michael Scriven.

Ian Venables made no mistake in the final, he passed early leader 300 Paul Carter on lap three and stormed away to victory.  484 Craig Utley ran second for most of the race but Frankie Wainman passed him with two to run, Craig hanging on for third.

Craig was soon ahead in the Grand National and left the opposition well adrift as he took the flag with Frankie Wainman moving into second right at the end.

422 Dave Riley led them away in the opening heat but was passed by 85 Iain Holden on lap five.  2 Paul Harrison was first away of the star men but it took him until the last lap to catch the leader, Paul taking the win with Iain in second.  The second heat had a caution on lap two for a roll over by 321 Ed Neachell.  223 Garry Townsend and 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard led the first half of the race before 322 James Neachell took over, going on to take the flag from Dylan in second.  The consolation saw victory go to Ed Neachell, he was chased hard by 16 Matt Newson.

Newcomer 126 Neil Turner led the first eight laps of the final before being passed by Matt Newson.  Matt was first past the flag but failed post race scrutineering handing the win to 4 Dan Johnson with Ed Neachell second and 390 Stuart Smith third

463 James Morris led from the off in the Grand National and looked to cruising to victory but a determined drive by Stuart Smith saw him close the gap and after making up an enormous amount of ground at the end Stuart managed to get a hit on the 463 car which saw him take the win with James in second.

Coventry April 2nd 2011

428 Richard Regan took the opening heat for whites & yellows only.  Richard didn’t put a wheel wrong, leading from start to finish.  330 Graham Wagstaff chased him for the first half of the race before 238 Richard Bryan went by and it was the 238 car who finished in the runner up position.  235 John Weldon led away heat two but 380 Steven Cayzer passed him on lap four with 321 Ed Neachell close behind.  The pair had a good battle with Ed finding a way past with two to run, taking the win with Steven in second.

111 Mike Williamson was the early leader in heat three, 73 Rob Cowley went ahead on lap three.  2 Paul Harrison moved up to second at half distance before passing Rob two laps later.  Paul took victory with 84 Tom Harris claiming second near the end.  The consolation had numerous early leaders before 34 Mal Brown hit the front.  Mal saw off several challengers until 515 Frankie Wainman got the better of him on lap ten.  Mal did not give up and regained the lead briefly but Frankie went by again late on to take the flag with al in second.

Graham Wagstaff led the final for eight laps before 35 Neil Shenton passed him.  Neil opened up a good lead but then the car started smoking and it was 4 Dan Johnson who took advantage.  Frankie Wainman moved up to second and 1 Andrew Smith to third but Dan was in control and they finished in that order.

388 Dave Campbell led the GN race way but was soon passed by 98 Les Spencer.  There was a caution after a roll by 343 Barry Heath but that did not deter Les who went on to win despite the attentions of 97 Murray Harrison over many laps.

Kings Lynn March 26th 2011

The Norfolk Arena opener for  F1 season started with a Whites and Yellows race and with 267 Graeme Robson changing a gearbox,  just four cars made it out on track for a six lap dash. Lone yellow 98 Les Spencer took it ahead of long-time leader 223 Garry Townsend.

515 Frankie Wainman Junior making his first appearance of the season made no mistakes in taking heat one of the four straight race format.  It was Garry Townsend who led until the closing stages.  With five to run Frankie had moved into third and as Townsend felt the pressure moved to the head of the field and the chequered with 321 Ed Neachell second.  1 Andy Smith made no mistakes in taking heat two his only problems coming from 2 Paul Harrison who he had earlier clattered hard into the Armco. Graeme Robson led early from Ed Neachell ,  Ed took up the running at half distance. With five to run it was Ed from Andy Smith.  Ed drifted wide on the last bend expecting the big hit and Andrew nipped in to take the win.

Garry Townsend was the early leader of the final but the main man was 55 Craig Finnikin who took a fine win – a repeat of this meeting in 2010.  Junior and Andy managed to delay each other to allow the top three to get away with Ed Neachell heading the pack and Craig Finnikin in second by lap six and Paul Harrison up to third.  Craig took up the running on twelve only for Ed to regain the position before having to give best again. At the flag it was Craig Finnikin from Paul Harrison from Ed Neachell.

Paul went one better in the Grand National taking the win ahead of 191 Joshua Smith and Frankie.

Belle Vue  March 20th 2011

World Champion 1 Andrew Smith joined the elite group of drivers to have won a career 100 finals when he took the premier event at this meeting.  His first final win came at Hartlepool way back in 1993.  424 Mike Heywood and 463 James Morris made the early running before 322 James Neachell hit the front.  Andrew moved into second spot just past half distance before reeling in the 322 car and passing him for the lead with four to run.  He went on to take the flag a good distance ahead of 16 Matt Newson and James Neachell

The opening heat saw 223 Garry Townsend ahead until lap nine when a turn three pile up saw Garry sidelined and several other drivers delayed.  This elevated James Neachell from eighth position to the lead and he went on to take the win with brother 321 Ed in second.  235 John Weldon led them away in heat two, James Neachell passed him on lap four but his lead was short lived as 4 Dan Johnson went by on his way to victory with 55 Craig Finnikin taking the runner up place.  238 Richard Bryan, 424 Mike Heywood and 158 James Clement all had spells in front in heat three before Andrew Smith took the lead.  Ed Neachell and 446 Joe Booth were running second and third and whilst Andrew took a comfortable victory there was a very close finish behind him as the cars crossed the line only millimetres apart, Ed getting the verdict.

The last race of the afternoon saw victory go to Matt Newson after Mike Heywood and Dan Johnson had led earlier.  Andrew Smith finished second.
