Buxton - 19th May 2013

It was a fine dry day in the Derbyshire Hills and heat one was led off by 252 Paul Redfern.  377 Jamie Jackson was soon by him with 163 Dave McMahon, making his first appearance for about five years, close behind.  97 Murray Harrison moved up to second on lap five but  Jamie opened up a big lead until a caution around half distance for attention to 150 Mick Sworder and ac fire in the 318 Rob Speak car.  212 Danny Wainman went second on lap ten and after that places swapped frequently over the remaining laps.  At the flag it was 84 Tom Harris from Murray Harrison and 16 Matt Newson.  Heat two was a flag to flag win for Jamie Jackson.  361 Steve Reedman ran second until 4 Dan Johnson went by on lap seven.  Matt Newson moved into second next time around but could make no impression on the leader.

It was Jamie Jackson again in the lead in the final chased by 393 David Plumbley.  Danny Wainman forced his way into second mid race but 2 Paul Harrison was right behind and Paul passed Danny with two to run and then Jamie at the start of the last, going on to  the flag with Danny runner up.  The first two positions in the last race of the afternoon was a repeat of the final for the first seven laps.  Tom Harris chased hard and hit the front with five to run followed by Mick Sworder.  As Tom took the chequered Matt Newson nipped past Mick for second

Birmingham  - 18th May 2013

Car numbers dictated a two-thirds heats and all-in final format with main honours on the night going to a very dialled in 212 Danny Wainman.

It was Wainman the younger who took the opening heat managing to maintain a safe distance ahead of 318 Rob Speak in the closing stages. 412 Gareth O’Beirne and 377 Jamie Jackson swapped the lead a number of times in the first six laps before Wainman moved into second on lap seven. Danny got by O’Beirne on lap nine and went on to take the chequered. Speak moved into second as the lap boards came out but could not close enough to challenge. O’Beirne held on for third ahead of 84 Tom Harris and 97 Murray Harrison.

White top O’Beirne went two better in heat two by getting the win but only after on track ‘winner’ 161 Mark Allen had fallen foul of post-race scrutineering. Gareth had led for the first half of the race before Mark took over having moved into second ahead of 252 Paul Redfern on lap six. 393 Dave Plumbley put in a strong performance only slipping into fourth in the closing stages behind 73 Rob Cowley and Harris again. Earlier on in the race and Murray Harrison had despatched 172 Micky Randell, 141 Carl Pickering and 422 Dave Riley before again slipping down the places.

It was another white top in the shape of Jamie Jackson who took heat three with a near flag to flag victory. His run at the head of the field was interrupted by  Randell who took up the running on fourteen but Jackson came back at him and withstood the last bend challenge to take the win. Randell came home second with 321 Ed Neachell just edging out 16 Mat Newson for third.

Jackson led away the final and led for just over half the race but he had to give best to a flying Wainman. O’Beirne ran second for four laps before Plumbley came by but his tenure in second was short-lived as Wainman came through. Danny drove away from the field and it was only in the closing stages that Speak got by Jackson to come home second with the white top holding on for a strong third with a now legal Allen fourth and Newson fifth.

Paul Redfern and then Jackson were the early leaders of the last race of the night with Jackson holding on to the lead until lap nine. Speak and Pickering had a big coming together on the back straight which closed up the field. Ed Neachell powered his way through the field with 259 Paul Hines in tow and the pair got by Jackson on lap nine. Ed went on to take the win ahead of Hines with Tom Harris third.

Running a two-thirds format for qualification for the UK Open Championship.252 Paul Redfern led away heat one from Willis with Murray Harrison making a good start. 229 Derek Brown moved into second on lap three with Harrison third and second a lap later. Murray moved into the lead on lap six and pulled into a clear lead. Chris Cowley moved into second just before half distance with 41 Robert Broome third. Broome lost out to Micky Randell and slipped further down the order as the pack engulfed him. Harris got by Speak and then Randell in the closing stages but Harrison was long gone with Cowley second.

Jamie Jackson was the early leader of heat two from Brown with Mark Allen then second. Allen took the lead on seven as the reds and superstars failed to make any impression. At half distance it was Allen from Jackson from Mike James with Murray Harrison beginning to make inroads after a slow start. Allen maintained his form to take the win with 1 Lee Fairhurst coming through late to second on the last bend by knocking Harrison wide.

It was Allen again who took heat three to cement his place as front yellow on the g rid for the day’s big race. Jackson was first away as Rob Cowley experienced early problems. Allen had made a good start with 4 Dan Johnson first red and the yellow top was in the lead on lap five. Johnson put Chris Cowley wide to move into fourth with Jackson second and James third. A caution with six to run closed up the field but Allen got a clean break on the restart  with James and then Johnson getting by Jackson. Dan moved into second with four to run with Chris Cowley closing fast. Cowley put in  last bend challenge on Johnson and Frankie Wainman was on hand to slip inside the two to come home second behind Allen. Johnson just beat Cowley in a drag for the line.

The grid for the UK Open formed with the highest points scorers from the heats at the front of their grades with the field made up of non-qualifiers at the rear of the grid. Jackson and Brown were the early leaders with Allen ominously in third and Murray Harrison also well away. A caution was needed on three for a stranded Rob Cowley and it was Allen into the lead on the restart. Sworder knocked Speak wide and then Fairhurst before receiving a hit back from Speak. Sworder then planted Speak into Danny Wainman as Allen pulled away ahead of  Jackson and Harrison. Harrison got by Jackson just after half way and began to close in on the leader with Chris Cowley also getting through for third. The battling reds and superstars were still delaying each other with Sworder again involved with a big hit on Johnson. As the laps counted down Allen was delayed by a back marking 462 Scott Davids allowing Harrison and Cowley top close in on the lead. Cowley got by Harrison and then knocked Allen wide on the last bend to take the win and inherit the trophy won by his father last season. Murray came home second with Mat Newson coming home third after a strong finish. Long time leader Allen had to settle for fourth with Harris rounding out the top five.

Rain for the last race of the day and it was Tom Harris who took the final chequered of the weekend. Jackson, James and Reedman shared the lead in the first half of the race before Reedman had to give best to Sworder. Harris moved into second on lap nine and closed in on Sworder. Sworder applied the brakes going down the back straight for the last time but Tom was a bit too smart and nudged Mick wide before dropping inside him to take the win.

Skegness WCQRSaturday 11th May 2013

287 Sean Willis led away heat one with the blue tops of 532 Darren Kitson, 97 Murray Harrison and 212 Danny Wainman making good starts. Kitson and Harrison were third and fourth by lap three. Murray got though and took up the running on six with Danny now second. Harrison drove away from the field and was a comfortable winner with Wainman a strong second and 464 Luke Davidson third. First red home was 515 Frankie Wainman in fourth.

377 Jamie Jackson was the early leader of heat two with 417 Mike James an early casualty. 161 Mark Allen made the most of his yellow top start and was soon second behind Jackson before taking the lead on lap five. 37 Chris Cowley on his season debut moved into second on lap seven with Jackson now third. 16 Matt Newson, 150 Mick Sworder and 84 Tom Harris engaged in battle down the order allowing the front two to pull away. Drama on the closing lap as the Cowley machine died allowing Newson to just pip Chris on the line.

Willis led away the consolation ahead of 189 George Heppenstall. 172 Micky Randell climbed all over 73 Rob Cowley leading to both retiring. Heppenstall took up the running on three with James second and 361 Steve Reedman third. Heppenstall came under pressure and James was through with 318 Rob Speak and 22 Will Yarrow into second and third. Speak got by James with four to run and that’s how it stayed to the flag.

Lone white Jackson led away the final from Kitson and 365 Joep Hendriks with Reedman going in hard on turn four leading to a caution. Kitson moved into the lead on lap five with Murray Harrison slotting in behind him. FWJ and Speak renewed old battles further down the field and were joined in battle by 321 Ed Neachell.  Neachell and 372 Colin Goodswen had a big coming together as Yarrow retired and Tom Harris moved into third. Harrison nudged Kitson wide to take the lead on his way to a comfortable win. Harris also got by Kitson with two to run to take second with Kitson coming home third. Mike James came home fourth with Sworder just pipping Danny Wainman as the pair exchanged blows in the closing stages.

Danny Wainman ended his barren run by taking victory in the last race of the night after getting by Kitson before half distance. Will Yarrow moved ahead of Allen into third. Yarrow  put Kitson out while further down the field Newson, Sworder, Wainman and Speak were engaged in a battle royal delaying each other. Harris escaped this battle and made a late charge for second with Allen third.

Sheffield  May 6th

This World Championship Qualifying round attracted sufficient cars to run a two heat and consolation format.  Heat one was led off by 377 Jamie Jackson, he was passed by 415 Russell Cooper on lap two who in turn was passed by 91 Tony Smith next time around.  An early race caution bunched up the field and 197 Ryan Harrison moved ahead as early as lap five.  21 Mark Gilbank went second shortly afterwards but could not catch the flying Ryan who took the flag ahead of Mark and 2 Paul Harrison who got by 515 Frankie Wainman in the closing stages.

386 Joe Thompson, making his first appearance for several years, led heat two for the first four laps before being passed by 446 Joe Booth.  16 Matt Newson moved into second around half distance and to the lead with two to run.  Joe tangled with 84 Tom Harris on the last lap as they battled for the runner up spot allowing 259 Paul Hines into second and 1 Lee Fairhurst into third.  Russell Cooper was ahead for three quarters of the consolation race chased first by 496 Neil Holcroft and then by 245 Carl Swift.  Tom Harris went second on lap eleven and to the lead on the next lap.  Tom duly took the flag with 94 John Dowson getting the better of Russell to take second and Russell hung on for third.

Russell Cooper led them away in the final but Joe Booth was past him on lap three.  Mark Gilbank was leading the red top train and he took the lead at half distance with 259 Paul Hines close behind.  Mark romped away to the chequered as Paul Harrison and 4 Dan Johnson relegated Paul Hines to fourth at the flag.

In the last race of the afternoon 351 John Frost was the leader for nine laps when Paul Harrison went by, Paul went on to take the win with Dan Johnson second and Tom Harris third.

Coventry  May 4th  Thanks to David and Chris Whiting for the report.

The line-up included a couple of banger driver making the switch to F1 in 435 Ricky Finney and 134 Gavin Smith, although the latter failed to grace the track. 52 cars raced.

The white and yellow grades were out for heat 1, with 44 Mark Harrhy leading the field after overhauling 59 Simon Black, as 76 Aaron Cozens and 415 Russell Cooper both spun on turn 3. 307 Tim Warwick was going well in third until bumpered by 308 Steve Malkin Jnr into turn 3, causing 207 Ben Hurdman to clash with Warwick and ride over his front end on turn 4, the pair crashing out on the infield with Warwick’s nerf rail torn off. The race was halted to check on the fenced 32 Chris Farnell, and a battle for the lead ensued on the restart with 330 Graham Wagstaff and 223 Garry Townsend both challenging 44 Harrhy. This trio was joined by 394 Chris Clare, and they got four abreast at one point, before Clare got through to lead. 44 Harrhy was spun exiting turn 4 onto the infield, rejoining the track halfway down the home straight where he was collected and T-boned by 377 Jamie Jackson to wreck Harrhy’s steering. 330 Wagstaff fought with 223 Townsend and 351 John Frost over second place before Frost picked up a flat rear, 394 Clare taking the win ahead of Townsend and Wagstaff.

59 Black set the pace in the second heat, as 377 Jackson was spun in a pit bend skirmish, bringing out the yellow flags with him stranded on the racing line. On the restart, 308 Malkin got up Black’s inside on turn 1, but they went wide and 267 Graeme Robson took over the front spot. 40 Steve Smith and 351 Frost spun on the pit bend, with the yellow flags coming out again for Frost. On the next restart, 446 Joe Booth overhauled Robson for the lead, with 84 Tom Harris and 12 Michael Scriven giving chase. 191 Josh Smith and 515 Frankie Wainman Jnr tangled near the pit gate, while into the last bend the bumpers failed to go in and 446 Booth took victory, with Harris and Scriven the placemen.

448 Jason Eaton headed heat 3 before he tangled with 76 Cozens to spin on turn 2. 212 Danny Wainman soon shot into the lead, as 303 Karl Mosley spun on turn 1, where he was T-boned by 118 Steve Harrison. 21 Mark Gilbank caught and passed 212 Wainman, as 55 Craig Finnikin, 197 Ryan Harrison and 4 Dan Johnson had a battle over the minor places. 21 Gilbank went on to take the chequered despite having 448 Eaton spin in front of him with just three laps to run, 212 Wainman and 16 Matt Newson following him over the line. 335 Mark Woodhull spun and T-boned 243 Martyn Walton on the last lap and failed to finish.

308 Malkin headed the consolation, as 303 Mosley, 91 Tony Smith and 259 Paul Hines tangled on the pit bend to collect the fence off turn 2. The race was halted to remove 303 Mosley, who had come to a halt halfway up the back straight. Second placed 351 Frost was forced to retire to the infield prior to the restart with a mechanical problem. 104 Paul Spooner and 335 Woodhull tried to dive up the inside of 308 Malkin on the restart, but Malkin would not give way, and Woodhull was forced into the turn 1 marker tyres and he completed a high speed roll, landing back on all fours. The race was again halted with debris on the track, Woodhull managing to drive his car, with a very flattened aerofoil, onto the infield. 308 Malkin continued to lead on the next restart, leaving 34 Mal Brown, 321 Ed Neachell and 259 Hines to have a great scrap over second, with Neachell eventually giving Brown a big hit to send him into the turn 1 armco. 308 Malkin took a good win, with Neachell second and Brown third, Hines having been a lap down.

A very dusty Final was led away by 308 Malkin, as a turn 2 tangle left debris on the track for the yellow flags to come out, with 515 Wainman amongst those retiring to the infield. 12 Scriven overhauled Malkin on the restart for the lead, with 55 Finnikin moving into third, before he got past both Malkin and Scriven to take over at the front. 308 Malkin hit 263 James Tucker on the pit bend before scuffing round the armco to collect a post exiting turn 2 for another stoppage. 16 Newson shoved past 12 Scriven on the next restart to chase Finnikin, but the latter was too far ahead and went on to record his third Final win of the year.

The National saw a large field grid with 308 Malkin leading as 263 Tucker was T-boned into turn 1, causing a pile up amongst the star and superstar grades. The race was cautioned to remove Tucker from the racing line, the restart also being stopped with 245 Carl Swift stalled on turn 1. On the next restart, 306 Iain Noden and 94 John Dowson Jnr tangled down the home straight, with Noden riding the armco. 4 Johnson stuffed 308 Malkin towards the turn 1 fence to take over the lead ahead of 21 Gilbank. 169 Billy Johnson then fenced 104 Spooner on turn 3, causing another stoppage to check on the latter. The next restart saw 446 Booth put in the bumper on Gilbank, but Gilbank remained in second and 16 Newson moved into third, before getting up Gilbank’s inside. 84 Harris and 55 Finnikin battled over fourth, before Finnikin got the better of Harris, with 446 Booth also passing Harris in the latter stages. 4 Johnson took the win from Newson and Gilbank, Finnikin claiming fourth from the lap handicap, while 446 Booth rode out a last bender from 84 Harris for fifth.

Kings Lynn  April 27th - Thanks to David Whiting for the report.

47 cars raced including a couple of Dutchmen in H17 Bouwe Arjen Hiddinga and H231 Daniel van Spijker.

The White & Yellow Grades Final was led away by 330 Graham Wagstaff, as 307 Tim Warwick battled with 76 Aaron Cozens before collecting the back straight fence. 45 Nigel Harrhy and 76 Cozens both had early spins, before 330 Wagstaff caught the backmarking 45 Harrhy on the road bend and put in the bumper, only to ride over his front end. This allowed 223 Garry Townsend to take the lead, Wagstaff then lunging at Townsend into turn 1, only to spin himself into the fence, Harrhy spinning into him. 223 Townsend stayed ahead to the flag for the win, from 496 Neil Holcroft, while 104 Paul Spooner took third after a last bend hit on 276 Mark Poole.

446 Joe Booth rode over another car in the pack down the back straight as heat 1 got underway. H231 van Spijker and 245 Carl Swift both had early spells in the lead, as 16 Matt Newson and 2 Paul Harrison tangled into turn 1 to hit the fence, with Newson riding over Harrison before tipping up, only the fence preventing him from going over. 94 John Downson Jnr crashed in to tip Newson up again, as the yellow flags came out. 197 Ryan Harrison blasted round the outside of the front runners as the race got going again, and from there on led the race to its conclusion for victory, chased home by 4 Dan Johnson and 55 Craig Finnikin.

267 Graeme Robson headed the second heat, as 307 Warwick and 223 Townsend battled over second. Warwick then fought with 248 Sam Redman for third, before hooking up with 169 Billy Johnson on the back straight, and they caused 280 Colin Nairn to spin into turn 3. 40 Steve Smith spun on turn 4, where he was clobbered by 248 Redman, bringing out the caution flags. The restart was still led by 267 Robson, as 223 Townsend launched at 104 Spooner in the battle for second, only to spin himself into the turn 1 fence. 515 Frankie Wainman Jnr now moved into second, 212 Daniel Wainman then giving him some hassle and putting in the bumper into turn 1. However, 515 Wainman shook off his younger brother and proceeded to reel in 267 Robson, shoving him wide into the last bend to claim the win, Robson taking second and 212 Wainman third.

245 Swift led the consolation, as H231 van Spijker had an early spin on turn 4, where he was collected by the traffic. 150 Sworder fenced 223 Townsend to move into second, before overhauling Swift for the lead with two laps to run, going on for the win. 16 Newson took second after a last bender on Swift, who had to be content with third.

All qualifiers bar Townsend made the Karen Barker Memorial Star Final, which was soon halted following a turn 1/2 melee, with 276 Poole rolling onto his side. The restart was led by 245 Swift, before 267 Robson went past, 197 Harrison then coming through to take over. H17 Hiddinga spun on turn 4, bringing out the yellow flags after half distance. With the track becoming dusty, it was rewatered prior to the restart, with 197 Harrison still leading and 150 Sworder and 55 Finnikin in pursuit. The backmarking 45 Harrhy was fenced by 150 Sworder on turn 3, with others also crashing in, bringing out the red flags to check on Harrhy. The restart saw 197 Harrison leading 55 Craig Finnikin and 150 Sworder, with Harrison going very wide into the bends before Finnikin put in the bumper, allowing Sworder to take the lead by diving up the inside. Harrison then bumpered Sworder hard into turn 1, taking him into the fence, Sworder somehow managing an amazing “wall-of-death” ride round the turn to the pit gate where he managed to get all four wheels back on the track. Meanwhile, 55 Finnikin had overhauled 197 Harrison for the lead, with 4 Johnson and 84 Tom Harris also joining the battle. Johnson shoved past to take the lead, but the yellow flags came out just as he reached the last bend with Sworder requiring assistance on the back straight. The race was restarted with just one lap to run with Johnson heading Finnikin, Harris and 197 Harrison. Johnson was expecting a big push into turn 1 and went wide, allowing Finnikin to go up his inside, and he was just too far ahead for a last bender and so took the win, while the bumpers did go in on the last bend in order to sort out third place, taken by 84 Harris, ending an awesome race.

A good number returned for the Grand National, which was soon stopped following a turn 1 pile up with 446 Booth riding over the spun 51 Dylan Williams Maynard. 197 Harrison soon overhauled 267 Robson for the lead on the restart and opened up a gap, as 388 Paul Ford and 169 Johnson tangled to collect the turn 3 marker tyres. 197 Harrison went on for his second win of the night, while 55 Finnikin came up the order from the lap handicap, delivering a last bend hit to 2 Harrison to take second.

Hednesford  April 21st

Heat one had to be restarted after a spectacular roll over by 532 Daz Kitson. Several drivers then led the race before 318 Rob Speak went ahead on lap ten. 150 Mick Sworder was close behind but could not get in a hit leaving Rob to take the flag.  2 Paul Harrison was third.  Rob failed post race scrutineering elevating Mick to the winners position.  377 Jamie Jackson opened up a good lead in heat two before a caution closed up the field.  197 Ryan Harrison was up to third at this point and to the lead on lap ten from 464 Luke Davidson in second.  107 Lee Robinson passed Luke late on to take second.

The final had Jamie Jackson ahead until after half way.  412 Gareth O’Beirne and 161 Mark Allen had spells chasing before Ryan Harrison took up the challenge.  Ryan eventually got to the front followed by 1 Lee Fairhurst and 107 Lee Robinson.  Lee R hit Lee F wide on the last bend and 84 Tom Harris seized his chance to nip through for second.  Ryan subsequently failed post race scrutineering handing the win to Tom.

Ryan was the quickest man in the Grand National, he passed long time leader 372 Colin Goodswen in the closing stages to take the win with Lee Robinson second and Lee Fairhurst third.

Birmingham  April 20th

The opening heat was won by 191 Josh Smith.  He took the lead on lap five after 108 Peter Hobbs and 141 Carl Pickering had led earlier.  Josh was chased by 221 Shaun Blakemore throughout but could make no impression.  World Champion 1 Lee Fairhurst was moving well and moved Shaun aside on the last bend to take second.  377 Jamie Jackson and Peter Hobbs led the early laps of heat two before 372 Colin Goodswen hit the front.  464 Luke Davidson was in pursuit and Luke moved to the front in the closing stages, taking the win with Colin second and11 Neil Scriven third.  318 Rob Speak took a relatively easy victory in the consolation, he was ahead before half distance and took the flag ahead of 321 Ed Neachell and 515 Frankie Wainman.

377 Jamie Jackson led away the final but it wasn’t long before Josh Smith hit the front.  Luke Davidson was right behind him  and Josh and Luke swapped positions a few times before 16 Matt Newson moved ahead.  Matt romped away to victory but all eyes were on the battle behind.  Seven drivers were knocking seven bells off each other throughout the second half of the race with positions changing lap by lap.  Going into the last anyone of those seven could have finished as runner up but it was 197 Ryan Harrison who achieved the place from 4 Dan Johnson in third.

In the last race of the night Jamie Jackson led the first five laps and then it was Colin Goodswen until the chequered.  Shaun Blakemore ran second until the closing stages when 259 Paul Hines went by to take the runner up spot.

Northampton  April 13th

Another meeting beset by poor weather, but at least this time it was only rain. The conditions served to cause all drivers to proceed with caution and allowed some lower graders their share of the limelight. Relative newcomer 154 Phil Cooper and debutant 108 Pete Hobbs ran one and two for the first five laps of heat one before 141 Carl Pickering got by Hobbs. 191 Josh Smith gradually worked his way through the field and moved into third when the lap boards came out. Pickering took the lead with four to run but Cooper came back at him before Pickering nosed back only for Josh Smith to come through to take the win with 259 Paul Hines making a late charge for second with Cooper third.

Cooper led away heat two with again Hobbs in tandem but Pickering was quicker off the mark this time and moved into the lead on lap five. The reds and superstars were making little impression and it was left to blue top Smith to make the challenge. He was up to third by lap ten and second a couple of laps later but Pickering was not to be denied this time and took the flag with Smith coming home well clear of Hobbs and Cooper with 197 Ryan Harrison first red home in fifth.

It was again Hobbs and Cooper who led away the meeting final but this time the boys at the back were much more on the pace. Chief of these was 150 Mick Sworder who bludgeoned his way through the pack to make second by half distance with only white top Hobbs ahead. Paul Hines was gaining momentum and launched a bumper assault on the lead two to take up the running as the race entered the second half. 515  Frankie Wainman was also now on the scene and a terrific tussle ensued which saw Junior take the lead on thirteen. The action livened up even further when 321 Ed Neachell joined the party and he took advantage of the squabble ahead to nudge into the lead. Wainman fought back to regain the lead  as the lap boards came out. Neachell was not to be denied though and got by Wainman and pulled away to take the chequered. Sworder was now a spent force but Hines and Wainman were joined by 2 Paul Harrison and the three battled hard for three laps and crossed the line virtually together with Wainman just pipping Hines for second with Paul fourth and 172 Micky Randell fifth.

The grand national was a much quieter affair and saw Cooper lead for six before Pickering got by on his way to his second chequered of the night. Paul Harrison came through for second after a race long tussle with Ryan Harrison with Cooper underlining his obvious talent coming home third.

Coventry  April 6th

Sixty-six cars made it to the Midlands mecca for the traditional ‘start’ to the F1 season. Coventry stuck to their regular format of a Whites and Yellows race, with five to qualify, and then two heats for the reds and blues and the non-qualifiers from the W & Y.

A frenetic start to the opener with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions before 303 Karl Mosley established himself at the head of the pack. 118 Steve Harrison and former grasstrack buddy 245 Carl Swift made him work hard for his lead though. Mosley gradually began to pull away as those behind delayed each other and at the chequered  he was well clear to take his first F1 victory. 276 Mark Poole came through for second just edging out Harrison with Swift and 198 Nigel Whalley the other two qualifiers.

Dutch visitor Gerrit Zwerver was the early leader of heat one before 267 Graeme Robson took over.  A mid-race caution closed up the field with 21 Mark Gilbank up to second on the restart with 97 Murray Harrison third. 150 Mick Sworder got the better of Harrison as Gilbank got by Robson.  Sworder then moved into second and seemed content to settle for second before a deft tap on the last bend saw him through for the chequered. Gilbank came home second with 55 Craig Finnikin third and the gallant Robson fourth.

252 Paul Redfern and 307 Tim Warwick were the early leaders of heat three before 10 Lee Smith took up the running on five. 191 Josh Smith was flying though and moved from third to first in one move. 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard followed him though but Smith was in dominant form and went on to take the win with 16 Mat Newson, debuting his new car, coming home in second with Dylan third.

197 Ryan Harrison had retired with problems in his heat but he made no mistake, and took no prisoners, on his way to victory in the consolation. Murray Harrison rolled in turn one as the cars entered lap two with debutant 44 Mark Harrhy, brother of Nigel,  up to second behind 243 Martyn Walton. 169 Billy Johnson was spun by Ryan as he moved through the field and he then planted 91 Tony Smith  into 306 Ian Noden into Harrhy to move into second. Harrison was soon by Walton and on his way to a clear cut win but at a cost – a blown engine! The Scriven brothers were battling it out for third with 335 Mark Woodhull and 259 Paul Hines joining in. 12 Michael Scriven and Hines got by Walton but the white top was having none of it and put the two reds into the last bend fence. Harrison took the win from Woodhull and 11 Neil Scriven with Walton recovering to fifth.

The final opened in dramatic fashion with Dylan Williams-Maynard rolling on the home straight leading to a complete re-start. Mosley led them away as the reds tried to make early inroads. Two first half cautions thinned down the field and this allowed Whalley and then Josh Smith to challenge for the lead. Josh took up the running with 94 John Dowson Junior slotting into second with Mosley third. Whalley was fourth but by half distance Sworder had moved into fifth.  Whalley got by Mosley and then the newcomer felt the force of the Sworder front bumper as Mick moved into fourth. Dowson slipped down the order allowing Whalley and Sworder to get through but up front Josh Smith was on his way to victory. Whalley held on for second with Sworder, Newson and Dowson rounding out the top five.

The last race of the night saw a victory for Joe Booth who took over from Swift on lap nine when the leader was delayed by back markers. Woodhull came home second with Michael Scriven third.

515 Frankie Wainman was top dog at this one, he won the opening heat, placed third in his second outing before winning the final and recovering to sixth from the handicap in the Grand National.

457 Scott Chambers led them away in heat one but 207 Ben Hurdman was soon past him.  Frankie Wainman took the lead on lap six with brother 212 Danny close behind.  Frankie pulled away as they raced to the flag and Ben relegated Danny to third on the last.  Ben was the early leader in heat two before being passed by 198 Nigel Whalley on lap four.  321 Ed Neachell moved ahead around half distance and took the chequered with Nigel not far behind.

Nigel Whalley passed Scott Chambers on lap three of the final.  Frankie Wainman chased hard before nudging Nigel wide with four to run.  191 Josh Smith went second at this point.  Frankie romped away to the flag with Josh in second and Nigel I third.

In the final race of the day 303 Karl Mosley led for most of the race.  World Champion 1 Lee Fairhurst gradually reeled him in before moving ahead with two to run.  Karl wasn’t finished though and he regained the lead next time around.  Lee waited until the last bend where he forced his way through to victory with Karl having to be content with runner up, 169 Billy Johnson placed third.

Stoke  March 30th

A good turn out for this qualifying round meant two heats and consolation and it saw a heat and final double for 21 Mark Gilbank.

51 Dylan Williams-Maynard became the first ‘casualty’ of the season for a jumped start offence seeing him black flagged. 245 Carl Swift was the early leader of heat one before 10 Lee Smith took over. After a troublesome start the reds got their act together and 335 Mark Woodhull took up the running from Gilbank. Gilbank bided his time and made the decisive mood with a lap to run. Woodhull came home second ahead of a fast finishing 55 Craig Finnikin.

252 Paul Redfern led for the first six laps of heat two before 515 Frankie Wainman went by on his way to a trouble free victory. 307 Tim Warwick showed well early but a tangle with 91 Tony Smith saw both out on lap six. This promoted 22 Will Yarrow to second but a tangle with 11 Neil Scriven with three to run saw him fall down the places. 12 Michael Scriven came home second with 321 Ed Neachell third and Neil Scriven recovering to fourth.

303 Karl Mosley led for the first three laps of the consolation until Tony Smith took over. Mosley then got involved in a battle royal for second with 276 Mark Poole, the pair swapping places on a number of occasions. 463 James Morris came through strongly in the closing stages and forced his way into the lead and the chequered. Mosley got by Smith to take second with the long-time leader coming home third.

45 Nigel Harrhy and 446 Joe Booth tangled early in the final and it was Mosley who led them away and for the first half of the race. He was passed by an inform 169 Billy Johnson just after the halfway mark. Tony Smith ran second for much of the early part of the race before Johnson and a flying Gilbank got by. Gilbank gradually closed in on the leader but it was to be turn one of the last lap before he made his move. A quick tap and mark was through with Billy coming home second and Craig Finnikin third just pipping 1 Lee Fairhurst and Woodhull.

The last race of the day saw another win fro Frankie Wainman  after getting by Fairhurst with four to run. 207 Ben Hurdman was the early leader before the race came under caution following a spectacular unaided roll by James Morris. Fairhurst got by Hurdman on the restart with Wainman soon second. Junior took the flag from the World Champion with Booth third ahead of Woodhull and 53 John Lund

Skegness  March 29th

Four straight races for the first tarmac meeting of the season and snow as well! An early caution was needed early in  heat one as 427 Marcus Collins was collected by 212 Danny Wainman, putting them both out for the night. 154 Phil Cooper was the early leader as 84 Tom Harris got in an early attack on 321 Ed Neachell and  161 Mark Allen. 464 Luke Davidson was soon second with 318 Rob Speak, in an all new Davidson machine, third. Davidson took the lead on six with Speak also getting by Cooper with Luke going on to take the chequered. Harris nudged Speak wide for second in the closing stages with 150 Mick Sworder fourth and Copper fifth.

Harris went one better in heat two, taking the lead just before the halfway mark. Cooper was once again the early leader but he had to give best to 191 Josh Smith on lap six. Smith the got involved in a tit for tat battle with 372 Colin Goodswen which allowed Harris to close up and take the lead. Goodswen came home in second ahead of Speak and 16 Matt Newson. Sworder barged 515 Frankie Wainman wide on the last bend for fifth.

377 Jamie Jackson led away the final but he was soon headed by the impressive Cooper with Speak making early inroads into the pack.  Sworder, Harris and Wainman were engaged in battle further down the field as Davidson made progress moving into the lead on seven. Goodswen settled into second but lost out to Speak in the closing stages. Josh Smith also got through to make the top three with Harris getting the better of Sworder on the last bend.

Goodswen finally got his just desserts by taking the victory in the last race of the night. Cooper had led for the first three-quarters of the race but was no match for the East Anglian driver. Further down the field Wainman and Newson were battling for scraps eventually coming home eighth and ninth. Cooper went wide in the closing stages to allow 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard though for second but the white top recovered to claim third. Speak was fourth with Sworder, this time getting the better of Harris, in fifth.

Current British Champion 55 Craig Finnikin was the man on form here, winning both heats and the meeting final.  Despite his three race wins Craig was however not the top points scorer, that distinction went to World Champion 1 Lee Fairhurst.  Lee was Mr consistency, recording two seconds and two thirds from his four outings.

Heat one saw 91 Tony Smith lead for much of the race but mechanical problems late on slowed him and Craig Finnikin was able to catch and pass him with five to run.  Tony’s son 191 Josh looked to be heading for victory in heat two until a last bend spin when under pressure from Craig saw the 55 car nip through to the flag.

Josh was to the fore in the final, leading from lap four until Craig found a way past with four to run.  Lee Fairhurst also went by leaving Josh in third spot.  In the last race of the day 463 James Morris passed early leader 245 Carl Swift on lap four but 515 Frankie Wainman was chasing hard and managed to overcome James in the closing stages to take the flag.

******CONGRATULATIONS TO 84 TOM HARRIS - 2012 NATIONAL POINTS CHAMPION******

This meeting was the National Points Shootout finale and with double points on offer any one of the top four drivers in the points chart going into the meeting could take the title.

A two thirds format was used and each driver scored steadily, if not spectacularly, in the heats.  Going into the final 515 Frankie Wainman had closed the slight deficit on Tom Harris and they were level with 4 Dan Johnson 14 points adrift and 55 Craig Finnikin a further 25 behind.

The final looked like being a win for 150 Mick Sworder, he took the lead as early as lap four and opened up a good advantage but when he was forced out in the closing stages Tom was ahead and remained there until the chequered.  Frankie had a disappointing, for him, sixth place finish meaning that in the last race of the day Frankie needed to win and Tom not finish for Frankie to take the title.  As it turned out Frankie limped home in 11th place with a flat tyre whilst Tom placed sixth to become the silver roof holder for 2013.

463 James Morris was first across the line in heat one, having led all the way, but was docked two places for jumping the start handing the win to Craig Finnikin with Frankie Wainman in second.  Heat two had 243 Martyn Walton ahead for the first few laps before James Morris passed him.  Mick Sworder was going well, up to second on lap ten and to the lead with three to run before taking the win ahead of 16 Matt Newson and James Morris.  Mick also won heat three, passing 76 Lee Smith early on.  He had a good battle with Dan Johnson throughout but Dan had to be content with runner up spot with Matt Newson third.

90 Liam Brown led them away in the final but it wasn’t long before James Morris passed him. Mick Sworder passed James on lap four but as described above he was forced out of the race leaving Tom Harris as leader.

Mick completed an otherwise good day for him by winning the All Comers event.  Once again James Morris led the early laps but Mick got by him on lap five with Craig Finnikin close behind.  Craig did manage to move ahead briefly in the closing stages but Mick soon re-gained the lead and took the win ahead of Craig and Matt Newson.

This meeting was the last “in season” points scoring meeting and the BSCDA would like to thank all the drivers who raced throughout the season for putting on an excellent show and to all the sponsors who have supported us during the year

Coventry November 3rd

The meeting opened with the Whites and Yellows Championship Final which took place in conditions best described as ‘challenging’ following heavy rain earlier in the day.  The race was chaotic and difficult to follow but 276 Mark Poole mastered the  conditions best, he was ahead early on after 214 Adam Slater had made the early running and took the victory ahead of 394 Chris Clare and 105 Chris Bonner.

Next up was the World of Shale final and whilst track conditions were much better the race was also chaotic and action packed.  Polesitter 55 Craig Finnikin led the opening lap before 2 Paul Harrison moved ahead.  On lap seven 462 Scott Davids pushed Craig into Paul and whilst they all sorted themselves out 22 Will Yarrow was through to the lead with Scott the first to recover from the incident.  515 Frankie Wainman moved into second shortly afterwards and to the lead at half distance.  Frankie romped home to victory.  16 Matt Newson moved into second place on lap twelve but was well adrift of the leader and 4 Dan Johnson pinched third from 335 Mark Woodhull late on.

207 Ben Hurdman led them off in heat one before 467 Tim Farrell passed him on lap four.  Tim looked to be cruising to victory until a race caution bunched up the field and 150 Mick Sworder found a way past Tim on the last lap to take the win with Mark Woodhull runner up and 21 Mark Gilbank third.  There were five different leaders in as many laps in heat two before 463 James Morris took control.  197 Ryan Harrison was soon up to second but he lost the place to Craig Finnikin soon afterweards.  Craig set about chasing the leader whom he caught and passed with five to run before taking the flag, James hanging on for second and 215 Geoff Nickolls placing third.  Mark Poole passed early consolation leader 258 Rob Harrad on lap four but Mark in turn was passed by Paul Harrison soon after.  Mark fought back to regain the lead and stayed there until the chequered with Paul in second and Frankie Wainman in third.

The final saw 290 Lee Warner lead the first six laps and then 34 Mal Brown moved ahead.  Ryan Harrison passed Mal around half distance and drove superbly to take the win ahead of 84 Tom Harris and Frankie Wainman.  238 Richard Bryan led them away in the All Comers race before being passed by Geoff Nickolls on lap six.  Geoff’s lead was shortlived as 212 Danny Wainman moved ahead on lap seven.  Mal Brown ran second until four to run when Frankie Wainman went by.  Frankie caught his younger brother  and tried a last bender but Danny held on to take the flag with Tom Harris nipping through for second and Frankie taking third.

Kings Lynn October 27th

Last helping of the season at next year’s World Final venue but more importantly for six drivers at least vital Shootout points on offer. For two drivers it was a night to forget with 16 Mat Newson blowing his engine and 55 Craig Finnikin failing to score a point. 4 Dan Johnson upped his game to put himself back into the reckoning with 84 Tom Harris and 515 Frankie Wainman scoring enough to maintain their top two positions.

307 Tim Warwick took a flag to flag victory in the first heat which was only open to whites and yellows. Unfortunately for Tim he fell foul of post race weighing and was taken out of the results. 330 Graham Wagstaffe inherited the win ahead of 267 Graeme Robson and 169 Billy Johnson. F2 pilot 58 Colin Eardley was running third on his debut but spun himself out of contention in the closing stages.

150 Mick Sworder dominated the next two heats with victories in both. 238 Richard Bryan was the early leader of heat two   A caution was needed on three with 97 Murray Harrison taking up the running on the restart. Mick Sworder was up to second. Dan Johnson and Craig Finnikin were going well but Mat Newson came to a halt and out of the race at half distance. With Frankie Wainman a lap down and Paul Harrison out all eyes were on Dan Johnson, Craig Finnikin and Tom Harris. Drama though in the closing stages when Craig and Tom retired as Mick Sworder took the lead with two to go. Dan got by Murray for second with Frankie gaining what might prove to be a very useful point in tenth.

A much easier ride for Mick in heat three taking the lead well before half way. Tim Warwick was the early leader but crashed out and 207 Ben Hurdman led briefly before Murray went by with 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard third.  Mick Sworder was up to second soon after and leading a lap later. Tom and Dan exchanged blows and places a couple of times with Dan coming out on top this time.  Dylan got the better of Murray on the last bend to claim second.

Graham Robson led away the final from Graham Wagstaff.  Craig  Finnikin retired with yet another puncture as Richard Bryan moved into second with Dylan third. Waggy clashed with 321 Ed Neachell causing both to retire with 259 Paul Hines and Mick Sworder mving into the top five before half distance. Paul moved into third and then second before retiring and Mick tangled with New Zealand visitor Kris Allen putting him way down the order. Up front Dan Jonson gradually wore down the lead before moving ahead with three to run. Graeme Robson hung on for second with Frankie third. Murray came home fourth with Paul Harrison just edging out Tom.

Ben Hurdman and then Graeme Robson led the all-comers before 446 Joe Booth moved ahead just after half distance. Graeme slipped down the order in the closing stages with 22 Will Yarrow coming home second and Mick Sworder third. FWJ came home fourth ahead of Tom and Paul with Craig recording another DNF.

51 Dylan Williams-Maynard continued where he had left off the previous day by taking heat one after 90 Liam Brown had led for over half the race.  141 Carl Pickering was running second and 515 Frankie Wainman third and when Frankie tried to remove Carl on the last bend 84 Tom Harris was able to nip through for second with Carl third.  417 Mike James was ahead in heat two by the end of the first lap.  Several challengers fell by the wayside before 172 Micky Randell moved ahead on lap te.  37 Chris Cowley went second and Chris was able to find a way past with three to run, taking the win with Micky second and 464 Luke Davidson third.  In the consolation race Liam Brown once again led until past half way when 150 Mick Sworder found a way past followed by 217(1) Lee Fairhurst.  That is how they finished with 532 Daz Kitson in third.

Liam Brown led them away in the final with 89 Alex Montague in second.  Dylan Williams-Maynard was soon up to second but was then passed by Carl Pickering.  Carl took the lead on lap twelve with Chris Cowley slotting into second.  Lee Fairhurst passed Chris at the start of the last and that’s how they crossed the line only for Carl to be subsequently disqualified when he failed post race scrutineering. Giving Lee his second final win of the weekend.  H365 Joep Hendricks finished third.  Joep was soon ahead in the last race of the day which saw an early race caution when 331 Pete Allin rolled over.  On the re-start 212 Danny Wainman was quickly away and he took the lead on lap seven before running away to the flag with 434 Ivan Pritchard in second and Frankie Wainman in third.

Birmingham October 20th

The meeting opened with the Annual Under 25’s Championship.  397 Stuart Smith led them off closely followed by 90 Liam Brown.  51 Dylan Williams-Maynard moved into second on lap five and to the lead a lap later.  197 Ryan Harrison was making good progress from the rear of the grid and he took the lead at the start of the last lap.  Dylan tried a last bender which was unsuccessful so Ryan took the flag with 84 Tom Harris second and 4 Dan Johnson third.  This was Ryan’s third win in this event.

189 George Heppenstall was the early leader in heat one.  Several drivers tried to find a way past but George held on until half distance when 172 Micky Randell moved ahead.  212 Danny Wainman went second but could not catch the leader and that’s how they finished with Tom Harris in third.  308 Steve Malkin led heat two for five laps before being passed by Dylan Williams-Maynard.  321 Ed Neachell went second around half distance and moved past Dylan into the lead at the start of the last lap.  Ryan Harrison also went by and put in a last bender on Ed before taking his second win of the day with Dylan in second and 2 Paul Harrison in third.  In the consolation race Steve Malkin and Liam Brown had short spells in the lead until George Heppenstall took over on lap four.  No one could get near George who tok the flag ahead of 417 Mike James and 182 Stuart Rolph.

George also led the the final until he was passed by Dylan Williams-Maynard on lap nine.  World Champion Lee Fairhurst got by on lap fourteen and took the victory from Tom Harris and Paul Harrison.  After losing the lead in the closing stages in his earlier three races Dylan made no mistake in the All Comers race, taking the win with 434 Ivan Pritchard second and Micky Randell third.

76 Lee Smith romped home to victory in the opening heat having passed 307 Tim Warwick at the end of the first lap.  424 Mike Heywood chased the leader until 446 Joe Booth went by but Joe could make no impression on Lee’s lead and had to be content with second, 150 Mick Sworder finishing third.  Heat 2 saw 252 Paul Redfern lead them off, keeping his advantage until 34 Mal Brown passed him on lap five.  53 John Lund moved into second with five to run, eventually catching the leader on the last bend.  The two cars crossed the line side by side in the closest finish you will ever see, Mal getting the verdict by 0.006 second.  Unfortunately for Mal he failed post race scrutineering handing the win to John from Mick Sworder and 84 Tom Harris.  An early race caution in heat three eroded Lee Smith’s lead and on the re-start he was soon passed by Mal Brown.  Mal’s lead was shortlived as 321 Ed Neachell moved ahead.  16 Matt Newson went second at half distance and gradually caught the leader but his last bender was unsuccessful so Ed took the flag from Matt with 4 Dan Johnson in third.

The final was led off by Lee Smith who held his advantage until 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard went by on lap five.  Mick Sworder gave chase at first and then 55 Craig Finnikin took up the challenge.  Although Craig was gaining slightly Dylan had a big cushion and he duly took the flag from Craig in second and John Lund in third.

Craig made no mistake in the GN race, he was ahead as early as lap five after Lee Smith and Mal Brown had made the early running.  Craig went on to record a convincing victory from Mal and John Lund.  This helped move Craig to the top of the National Points Shootout chart.

84 Tom Harris was on top form, winning both his heats and the final and scoring well in the National Points Shootout to move him up the table.

189 George Hepponstall led the opening laps before 45 Nigel Harry went by.  Tom was ahead before half way on the greasy track.  515 Frankie Wainman moved into second at half distance but Tom was well clear.  191 Josh Smith placed third.  287 Sean Willis led the first five laps of heat two and then 172 Micky Randell took over.  Tom Harris moved into second mid race and it took him until three to run to reel in the leader before taking his second chequered of the night with Micky second and Josh Smith again third.  The third heat had George Hepponstall ahead until half way when Micky Randell passed him.  434 Ivan Pritchard got by Micky in the closing stages to take the win.  259 pinched second at the end relegating Micky to third.

361 Steve Reedman passed early leader George Hepponstall on lap three of the final.  Tom Harris moved into second just before half distance and to the lead when Steve crashed out.  Ivan Pritchard ran second until the last bend when a deft bit of bumper work saw 217(1) Lee Fairhurst take second spot with 4 Dan Johnson in third.

Lee went one better in the last race of the evening, he moved ahead on lap six before taking the flag from 515 Frankie Wainman in second and 16 Matt Newson in third. Frankie’s consistency on the night saw him move to the top of the leader board in the National Points Shootout.

475 Aaron Cozens led the opening laps of heat one before 308 Steve Malkin went by on lap four.  330 Graham Wagstaff was running second until 105 Chris Bonner passed them both around half distance to take a lead he would keep until the flag.  337 Dave Willis gave chase but had to be content with the runner up spot, 276 Mark Poole taking third.   Heat two saw 496 Neil Holcroft lead them off but 446 Joe Booth was soon up to second and to the lead on lap five.  53 John Lund moved up to second at half way and to the lead with five to run.  Then 150 Mick Sworder appeared and removed the leading pair with one hit and going on to take the win from John in second and 259 Paul Hines in third.

448 Jason Eaton led the first lap of heart three before being passed by 467 Tim Farrell.  51 Dylan Williams-Maynard had a spell in second before 97 Murray Harrison went by.  Murray took the lead on lap six and romped home to victory.  2 Paul Harrison moved into second late on but could not get near the 97 car.  84 Tom Harris finished third.  267 Graeme Robson led the first half of the consolation before Joe Booth took over.  197 Ryan Harrison moved into second and over the next few laps the lead swapped between these two several times.  In the closing stages 16 Matt Newson found a way past but his lead was short lived as 212 Danny Wainman hit the front with four to run.  Danny went on to win with Matt second and Ryan third.

The final had several early leaders until 34 Mal Brown hit the front on lap five.  Mick Sworder moved into second, eventually catching and passing Mal on lap fourteen.  On the next bend Mal retaliated and both cars ended stationary in the fence leaving 4 Dan Johnson ahead and on his way to victory from Matt Newson in second and Tom Harris in third.  The last race of the night saw a popular victory for 53 John Lund.  In an action packed race with several cautions it took John until two to run to get to the front and an excellent drive from the handicap saw Dan Johnson home in second and Matt Newson in third.  Dan had a bumper points haul from the meeting, propelling him to the head of the National Points Shootout table.

238 Richard Bryan led the first six laps of heat one with 463 James Morris in pursuit.  James moved ahead on lap seven and looked to be heading for victory until he tangled with three to run handing the lead and the win to 197 Ryan Harrison from 515 Frankie Wainman in second and 321 Ed Neachell in third.  Heat two saw 496 Neil Holcroft, 243 Martyn Walton and 169 Billy Johnson all have a lap ahead before 446 Joe Booth took over on lap four.  Joe romped away to victory finishing almost half a lap ahead of 21 Mark Gilbank and 335 Mark Woodhull.  Richard Bryan led them away in the consolation but was passed by 337 Dave Willis on the second lap.  4 Dan Johnson moved ahead just before half distance chased by 22 Will Yarrow.  Will got by Dan on lap ten but Dan re-took the lead with two to go and that’s how they finished with 55 Craig Finnikin in third.

The final had 307 Tim Warwick leading them away but James Morris was in front by the end of the first lap with 97 Murray Harrison slotting into second.  It was raining quite heavy by now making conditions difficult and James spun on lap fourteen allowing 2 Paul Harrison to the front, Paul rode out the remaining laps to take the flag ahead of Ed Neachell and Murray.  The wet conditions played their part in the GN race with lots of drivers spinning out but Billy Johnson kept his cool to lead from early on to the chequered and record his first ever win in F1 with 53 John Lund taking second and 34 Mal Brown third.

Skegness September 15`th

Massive congratulations to our new World Champion, 217 Lee Fairhurst.

In what can be best described as an amazing race Lee took the title from the very back of the grid.  There was a complete re-start after an early pile up leading to a track blockage.  On the re-start 515 Frankie Wainman was the first away.  21 Mark Gilbank, 150 Mick Sworder and H22 Louw Wobbes all had spells in second before a roll over by 318 Rob Speak.  There were a couple of further cautions and row fifteen starter 4 Dan Johnson moved ahead on lap six.  21 Mark Gilbank hit the front on lap nine and by now Lee Fairhurst was up to second.  Dan Johnson then passed Lee and Mark to lead the race again before being pushed back to third by Lee and Frankie.  Lee made no errors over the remaining laps to take the win with Dan relegating Frankie to third before the end.

The meeting had opened with the consolation semi-final race, a last chance for two more drivers to make the grid for the big race.  This saw another win from the back, this time by H217 Ron Kroonder.  417 Mike James was the early leader from Chris Cowley in second.  Ron moved into second on lap five and to the lead at the union jack.  Dan Johnson went second around the same time and those were the positions at the chequered with Lee Fairhurst in third, becoming first reserve for the World Final race itself.  After the withdrawal of 218 Derek Fairhurst with mechanical problems the way was open for Lee to take up that reserve berth.

Heat two was a flag to flag win for 221 Shaun Blakemore.  He was chased first by 287 Sean Willis, then by 285 Richard Earl but neither could make any impression on Shaun’s lead.  H365 Joop Hendricks moved into second in the closing stages but he also could not catch the leader and had to be content with second with Richard taking third.  There were two consolation races with three from each qualifying for the meeting final.  In the first 2 Paul Harrison took the win from 321 Ed Neachell and 372 Colin Goodswen.  In the second victory went to 212 Danny Wainman from 84 Tom Harris and 55 Craig Finnikin.

411 Peter Kaulbarsch led away the final and stayed in front for four laps until passed by 361 Steve Reedman.  Joop Hendricks took over ahead of a race caution and on the re-start H107 soon found his way to the front.  Ed Neachell slotted into second and Paul Harrison moved into third mid way through the race and that is how they crossed the line for the final time.  Lee was subsequently docked two places for jumping the re-start, handing the win to Ed.  The last race of the evening resulted in a 1-2-3 for The Netherlands.  Sean Willis and Peter Kaulbarsch led for the first half of the race and then H6 Geert Jan Keijzer moved ahead.  Geert Jan was still there at the chequered from H477 Martin Oudhuis in second and H399 Jesse de Bruin in third.

Birmingham September 8`th

There was 29 cars in attendance for the last meeting before the World Final, and a two thirds format was the order of the day.37 Chris Cowley recorded a heat and final double, the other significant fact of the night there was no star grade victories.

221 Shaun Blakemore carried on his good form at the track by taking the victory in heat 1, he led from start to finish, but unfortunately he was unable to take any further part in the meeting due to mechanical problems.

Heat two was won by 37 Chris Cowley he was being trailed by 259 Paul Hines but he could not get close enough and had to settle for second position.

There was an overseas victory in heat 3 for NZ1 Joe Faram, he hit the front early on and even tho 11 Neil Scriven was catching him he was not able to make contact with Joe and influence the result.

The final was stopped early on to allow assistance to 397 Stuart Smith who was on the racing line on the back straight and NZ1 Joe Faram was in the lead at the restart but Chris was already coming through the field, he took over the lead just after the half distance from Joe and went on to record the victory from 11 Neil Scriven in second and 464 Luke Davidson in third.

The last race of the night and victory went to NZ1 Joe Faram he led from the opening laps, Will Yarrow ran second for much of the race and tried a last bend attack, but it did not come off and he headed towards the fence. Joe took the victory, and 16 Matt Newson finished runner up and 300 Paul Carter took third 3rd Will recovering to finish fourth.

Coventry September 1st

There was a bumper points haul for defending champion 55 Craig Finnikin at this, the second, National Points Shootout round.

223 Garry Townsend took the opening heat, leading from start to finish.  238 Richard Bryan and 307 Tim Warwick had a good tussle in second/third until half distance when 463 James Morris went second.  A few laps later 467 Tim Farrell moved into second but the leader was well clear.  244 Mick Rogers placed third.   Heat two saw 248 Sam Redman lead until lap eight when 197 Ryan Harrison went by with 22 Will Yarrow in second.  Will could make no impression on the leader so it was Ryan who took the flag, 84 Tom Harris went second with two to run and Will finished third.

Richard Bryan opened up a big lead in heat three, one by one the challengers fell by the wayside until five to run when Craig Finnikin moved into second.  Two laps later Richard tangled with a back marker and Craig was away to the chequered.  515 Frankie Wainman was second and 2 Paul Harrison third.  258 Rob Harrad and Richard Bryan led the opening laps of the consolation but it was 462 Scott Davids who went ahead just before half distance.  21 Mark Gilbank was second until 150 Mick Sworder went by him.  Mick tried to get on terms with the leader but Scott was untroubled as he took the win with Mick in second and Mark third

The final saw 407 Craig Smith ahead for seven laps and then it was the turn of James Morris.  Mick Sworder went second just before the Union Jack and he was passed by Craig Finnikin three laps later.   Craig took the lead next time around as 53 John Lund moved into second.  At the chequered it was Craig first, 4 Dan Johnson who passed John on the last lap in second and John third.

The last race of the day saw a good tussle between Richard Bryan and 207 Ben Hurdman at the head of the pack with Ryan Harrison first of the star men.  Ryan moved ahead at half distance and took the win ahead of John Lund.  515 Frankie Wainman was third and Craig Finnikin fourth from the handicap.

Belle Vue August 27`th

Much credit is due to all the drivers who took part plus the track staff as the meeting took place in heavy rain.

462 Scott Davids took the opening heat, he moved ahead on lap six after 243 Martyn Walton and 238 Richard Bryan had made the early running.  212 Danny Wainman moved into second just after half distance but could make no impression on the leader.  191 Josh Smith finished third.

Heat two had 88 Phil Whitaker ahead during the early laps, then 337 Dave Willis hit the front.  Soon after 463 James Morris went ahead and at the flag James was well clear of 4 Dan Johnson with Dave Willis in third.

Dave Willis passed Martyn Walton on the second lap of heat three.  Dan Johnson chased hard and eventually got by Dave with three to run.  However disaster for Dan as he hooked up with a back marker on the last bend allowing Dave through to the flag, Dan claiming second and third going to 29 Ian Higgins.

There was a good battle in the early laps of the final as Martyn Walton and Dave Willis exchanged places several times at the head of the pack.  Dave managed to pull clear and opened up a useful lead but 515 Frankie Wainman was on a charge and he disposed of Dave with just a couple of laps to run to take the flag from brother Danny and Dan Johnson in third.

After two seconds and a third Dan Johnson made sure he was top scorer on the day with victory in the GN race.  He took the lead on lap six after 496 Neil Holcroft and James Morris had led the early laps.  There was a slight scare for Dan as he had a brief tangle on the last lap allowing Dave Willis to close right up but Dan took the flag from Dave with 35 Neil Shenton in third.

This was the first round of the Shootout stage of the National Points Championship.  A final win for 84 Tom Harris saw him as top scorer.  4 Dan Johnson and 515 Frankie Wainman also scored well with 2 Paul Harrison and 217 Lee Fairhurst returned scores in the teens.  For the other seven Shootout drivers this will have been one they would rather forget.

221 Shaun Blakemore led the opening laps of heat one, 417 Mike James had a brief spell ahead before 191 Josh Smith moved to the front.  197 Ryan Harrison was running second but around half distance Frankie Wainman got by both of them into a lead he would keep until the flag.  Ryan placed second and Tom Harris was third.

Heat two had 201 George Lund as its early leader until 91 Tony Smith went past.  On lap five Josh Smith took over with 172 Micky Randell up to second.  Micky could make no impression on Josh’s lead and Josh duly took the flag from Micky and Tom Harris again third.

Shaun Blakemore led heat three from flag to flag.  He was chased throughout by Tony Smith although 73 Rob Cowley moved into second and Ryan Harrison to third on the last lap.

Shaun led the final until almost half way when 37 Chris Cowley passed him.  Chris opened up a useful lead as Tom Harris moved into second with five to run.  With two laps remaining Chris spun allowing Tom to the lead.  4 Dan Johnson had made steady progress through thec field and moved into second on the last lap but was too far adrift to challenge for the lead and had to be content with second behind Tom, Shaun hanging on for third.

Mike James led the GN race until half distance when Ryan Harrison went by.  464 Luke Davidson was soon running second but Ryan made no mistakes and could not be caught, although it was very close at the line between Ryan, Luke and third placed Frankie Wainman with less than half a second between first and third.

Stoke August 11`th

F1 stock cars returned to Stoke for the first time since 2001 and put on an excellent show.  207 Ben Hurdman led away heat one with 238 Richard Bryan close behind.  Both spun whilst jostling for position leaving 462 Scott Davids ahead.  A flat tyre just before half distance put Scott out of the race and saw 215 Geoff  Nickolls lead briefly before 55 Craig Finnikin went by on his way to victory.  53 John Lund went second late on with Geoff hanging on for third.  Heat two had team Malkin ahead, first 208 Steve snr followed by 308 Steve jnr.  A caution on lap six for the stricken 45 Nigel Harrhy car saw the field close up and 197 Ryan Harrison hit the front soon after.  515 Frankie Wainman moved into second soon afterwards and to the lead with five to run.  Ryan regained the lead next time around but a lap later Frankie was in front again and he duly took the flag with 84 Tom Harris second and 212 Danny Wainman third.

307 Tim Warwick led the first half of the consolation race before being passed by 48 Garry Fox.  Tim stuck with him and regained the lead two laps later.  Scott Davids pushed Tim out wide with for to run to take the lead.  On the last bend Garry Fox hit Scott  out of the way but 34 Mal Brown and 51 Dylan Williams-Maynard nipped through to take first and second, Garry recovering for 3rd.

Garry Fox led them away in the final but on lap five 463 James Morris passed him.  Craig Finnikin and Tom Harris were making good progress from the rear of the grid and as they challenged for the lead James rolled leading to a caution.  Craig led off the restart but was forced out with mechanical trouble leaving Tom ahead.  Dylan Williams-Maynard moved up to second at this time.  At the flag Tom emerged as the victor with Dylan second and Frankie Wainman third.

The last race of the evening saw Tim Warwick lead the opening laps and then Richard Bryan had a spell ahead.  Frankie Wainman was first out of the star men but was sidelined with a puncture just past half distance.  Scott Davids then took up the running with 53 John Lund in second.  John took the lead with a couple of laps to go but a successful last bender by 335 Mark Woodhull saw Mark take the chequered with John second and Tom Harris third from the handicap.

Coventry August 4th

The meeting opened with the now traditional white and yellow heat and this was won in fine style by 207 Ben Hurdman.  67 James Waters led for the first three laps before Ben got by him with 307 Tim Warwick slotting into second.  26 Mark Poole moved up to second on lap nine but could make no impression on the leader so had to be content with second.  306 Ian Noden placed third.   243 Martyn Walton led away heat two but 463 James Morris was soon past and into the lead.  235 John Weldon ran second for much of the race until a caution in the closing stages which saw 515 Frankie Wainman pass him.  Despite the pressure James made no mistakes though and took the flag ahead of Frankie and 53 John Lund who went third late on.496 Neil Holcroft was the early leader in heat three but 105 Chris Bonner overhauled him after a couple of laps.  97 Murray Harrison moved into second and to the lead before half distance.  Murray romped away to victory but all eyes were on the battle for second between 150 Mick Sworder, 55 Craig Finnikin and 84 Tom Harris.  Positions changed on almost every lap but at the flag they were in the order listed.  In the consolation race 208 Steve Malkin, Neil Holcroft and Tim Warwick all had brief spells ahead before 467 Tim Farrell moved ahead.  Tim opened up a good lead from second placed Mal Brown but a late race tangle with a back marker delayed him enough to allow 212 Danny Wainman through on his way to the flag, 2 Paul Harrison took second and Mal Brown third.

Ian Noden passed early leader Ben Hurdman on lap three of the final.  22 Will Yarrow moved up to second and then to the lead on lap fourteen.  Ian stayed with him and regained the lead briefly before a caution closed up the field.  On the re-start Craig Finnikin took the lead from 35 Neil Shenton in second.  Craig took victory with Neil relegated to third by Frankie Wainman at the end.  The last race of the evening went to 48 Garry Fox who led from flag to flag, although there was plenty going on behind him to interest the spectators.  Chris Bonner and Ian Noden had a good battle over second place for much of the race until Frankie Wainman appeared.  Frankie took his third runner up spot of the night with Ian in third.

The main race of the evening was the second World Championship Semi-final.  The race had three different leaders on the opening lap, 84 Tom Harris, then 150 Mick Sworder but when the lap ended 217 Lee Fairhurst was in front with Mick in second spot.  16 Matt Newson was running third when he pulled off on lap six.  Lee opened up a good lead until mechanical troubles stuck and Mick moved ahead on lap ten with Tom going second.  Lee slipped down the order, eventually pulling off in the closing stages.  Mick took the flag ahead of Tom with 212 Danny Wainman claiming third spot.  King’s Lynn Semi winner 515 Frankie Wainman won the toss to determine who started on the inside in the World Final race.

Heat one had been completely restarted after an opening lap roll by 321 Ed Neachell.  229 Derek Brown led the first five laps before 45 Nigel Harrhy went by.  464 Luke Davidson moved into second around half distance and to the lead with five to run.  Luke took the win with 259 Paul Hines getting the better of Nigel on the last lap to place second, Nigel hanging on for third.  361 Steve Reedman led them away in the consolation with 11 Neil Scriven up to second on lap two.  Neil moved ahead on four with 41 Robert Broome close behind and that’s how they stayed to the flag with Lee Fairhurst taking third place.

Derek Brown was the early leader in the final until 191 Josh Smith went by on lap five,  21 Mark Gilbank was first out of the star men and moved into second place on lap eight and to the lead on lap twelve.  Mark went on to win in fine style with Josh retaining his second spot despite a late charge from Tom Harris who finished third.  103 Richard Masterson led them off in the GN race but by the end of the first lap Nigel Harrhy had hit the front.  37 Chris Cowley was moving well and he took the lead on lap three and romped away to the flag, although 259 Paul Hines was close at the end.  Chris was subsequently docked for jumping the start, handing the win to Paul with Tom Harris in second place.

The main race of the evening was the first World Championship Semi-final.  515 Frankie Wainman was the winner after a hard fought battle with 55 Craig Finnikin.  Craig was the leader coming out of the first bend but Frankie got by before the end of lap one.  He remained out in front until lap eight when Craig passed him.  Lap eight was also notable for a roll over by 172 Micky Randell.  Frankie regained the lead on lap eleven and Craig lost his second place to 390 Stuart Smith with two to run but regained it on the last lap with current World Champion 2 Paul Harrison also passing Stuart to take third.

The meeting had opened with the traditional King’s Lynn white & yellow race which went to 244 Mick Rogers after 330 Graham Wagstaff and 169 Billy Johnson had led during the first half of the race.  Billy finished second.  Heat one saw 258 Rob Harrad as the early leader until 150 Mick Sworder went by on lap six.  197 Ryan Harrison passed Mick soon after but Mick regained the lead in the closing stages to take the win.  Ryan was docked places for jumping the re-start elevating 212 Danny Wainman to second and 463 James Morris to third.  In the consolation race 48 Garry Fox moved ahead on lap three and stayed there to the flag where he was well clear of 207 Ben Hurdman and 338 Chris Brocksopp.

There were several leaders in the early stages of the final before 22 Will Yarrow took over on lap six.  321 Ed Neachell moved up to second and to the lead at half distance.  There was a caution on lap fourteen as Frankie Wainman rolled.  53 John Lund was running second at this point but was passed by Mick Sworder  with four to run.  Ed was first across the line but was docked two places for jumping the re-start handing the win to Mick with 335 Mark Woodhull in second.   The last race of the day was won by Will Yarrow from Paul Harrison in second and Craig Finnikin in third.

Northampton July 14th                                                                                                                                                                                                                   The first day of the Euro speed weekend and we had a mixed bag of weather the meeting started in sunshine and then the rain fell and then it cleared again. The first heat had 22 starters but the caution flags were soon out as Dutch competitor Danny Smidt rolled on turn one. Only 18 cars made the restart, on the restart 227 Derek Brown led them away and drove a faultless race to record the victory.Heat two had 23 cars 412 Gareth O’Beirne was the early leader but catching him and ultimately passing him was 417 Mike James, there was then a race stoppage as 141 Carl Pickering and 172 Mickey Randall had a coming together on turn3 and 4 which resulted in Carl sitting on the front of the 172 car. Mike James led from the restart and went on to win even though 150 Mick Sworder was gaining on the leader in the last few laps it was not close enough to mount a challenge. The consolation race had 18 starters and there was an early stoppage as 411 Peter Kaulbarsch,  45 Nigel Harrhy and 427 Marcus Collins tangled on turn two, 73 Rob Cowley took the lead and went on to win from 515 Frankie Wainman in second.195 Dean Whitwell took the victory in the feature final and drove a faultless race to record a popular win from his yellow grade starting position, there was a good battle behind for second and third with 84 Tom Harris coming out on top with Frankie Wainman rounding off the top three. The last race of the night and  white tops 412 Gareth O’Beirne and 229 Derek Brown were occupying the top two positions before  12 Michael Scriven reeled them in and hit the front to become the only star grader to record a victory all evening.

Coventry July 7th 2012

Congratulations to 55 Craig Finnikin, the new British Champion for 2012. Craig started the race on row two after the qualifying heats and led the first seven laps of the race before 97 Murray Harrison hit the front.  515 Frankie Wainman moved up to second and 150 Mick Sworder also went by, relegating Craig to fourth place.  That was the order throughout the second half of the race, until the very last bend.  Frankie put in a hit on Murray, both cars slid out wide and at the same time Craig hit Mick to nip through and take the flag and the title.  Mick and Frankie recovered to take second and third.

The opening heat went to 84 Tom Harris who won a three way battle with Frankie Wainman and 53 John Lund after 48 Garry Fox and 111 Mike Williamson had led earlier. 29 Ian Higgins finished second.   207 Ben Hurdman looked to be heading for victory in heat two but Mick Sworder found a way past at the start of the last lap but he was pushed aside on the last bend by Craig Finnikin who took the flag with Mick in second.

48 Garry Fox was the heat three winner, leading from flag to flag.  Ben Hurdman ran second until half way when Murray Harrison passed him but Murray could make no impression on Garry’s lead and had to be content with second spot.  The fourth qualifying heat went to 21 Mark Gilbank.  258 Rob Harrad led until lap ten closely followed by 105 Chris Bonner.  Mark hit the front and was able to resist the challenge of Tom Harris who moved to second in the closing stages.  A last chance consolation race was staged with 321 Ed Neachell and 394 Chris Clare tasking the all important first two positions for a place on the final grid.

Skegness July 1st 2012

Mark Allen picked up where he had left off on Saturday night by taking the opening heat on Sunday. 252 Paul Redfern led briefly before Mark took over and the win was then a formality. New Zealander Joe Faram made the most of a flying visit to gain some valuable track time putting in some good performances. Luke Davidson was up to second but Mark Allen was gone. Tom retired with a flat leaving Dean Whitwell third.

Nigel Harrhy then Sean Willis then Dave Riley led on lap one of heat two with Micky Randell and 22 Will Yarrow making second and third by lap two.  Paul Hines and Mick Sworder were leading the red tops but Dave Riley stretched his lead and came home well ahead of Micky Randell with Paul Hines and 247 Gary Castell getting by Will. Unfortunately, Dave Riley failed the dreaded post-race weighing gifting Micky Randell the win.

Dave made amends by taking heat three on a track made greasy by a passing shower. Dean Whitwell moved into second as Tom Harris retired with Geert Jan Keijzer (H6) third. Micky Randell moved into third but lost out in a tussle with 321 Ed Neachell promoting Paul Hines so it was Dave Riley from Dean Whitwell from Paul Hines at the flag.

Nigel Harrhy led for the first half of the final with Mark Allen second on lap four with Paul Hermkens (H36) third and Geert Jan Keijzer at the head of a red top train. Mark took up the running just after the UJ with Dave Riley moving into second and Paul Hermkens third. Will Yarrow and Micky Randell moved into the top five as Mick Sworder put Frankie wide for sixth. Tom Harris also got in a hit on Frankie to gain a place but it was all about Mark Allen as he took his second final of the weekend. Dave Riley came home second with Will Yarrow just edging third.

Last race of the weekend saw another win for a yellow top and again it was Dave Riley. Nigel Harrhy led for four laps before Dave took over on his way to a comfortable win. Micky Randell made second just before halfway but eventually lost out to Mick Sworder in the closing stages. Will Yarrow and Luke Davidson were fourth and fifth with Tom Harris getting by Matt Newson and Paul Hines in the closing stages to come home sixth.

Skegness June 30th 2012

Not a star or superstar race winner all weekend with only Blue 172 Micky Randell breaking the Yellow domination, oh forgot about Nigel who recorded a win from White!

It was 45 Nigel Harrhy in fact who took the first race of the weekend by taking heat one with an almost flag to flag victory, 287 Sean Willis leading for half the first lap. 195 Dean Whitwell and 422 Dave Riley ran second and third with Dean briefly taking the lead before Nigel came back through. Micky Randell had mad a good start and moved into third and then second as the race entered the second half. 150 Mick Sworder and 84 Tom Harris forced their way into the top five but could not affect the leading positions.

Nigel Harrhy led the first half of heat two but moved wide as 161 Mark Allen closed in. 464 Luke Davidson made a good start from the reds. Luke made third on ten and as Nigel Harrhy drifted wide moved into second with 259 Paul Hines in his brand new tarmac creation going third with two to run. 161 Mark Allen was away and gone though to take the chequered.

Heat three and another win for Mark Allen who got by early leader Sean Willis on lap three and never looked back. Dean Whitwell kept in touch as did Micky Randell but neither could close enough to challenge. Micky lost out on a finish after being taken out by Mick Sworder on the last bend.

Nigel Harrhy led away the final with Dean Whitwell second. Dean took the lead with Mark Allen in tow. The pair swapped places a couple of times before Mark drove off into the distance. Dean Whitwell and Dave Riley came under pressure in the closing stages from Tom Harris and Mick Sworder eventually having to give best but the two hard charging stars were the length of the straight behind the leader come the chequered.

Nigel Harrhy led away the national but Micky Randell was leading from Dave Riley and Nigel Harrhy at the halfway stage. Dave  got by a lap later but Micky was soon back on his way to the chequered. Tom Harris moved into second with Dave Riley having to settle for third.

Ipswich June 23rd 2012

Eighteen made it to the East Anglian outpost but unfortunately the Newson hire car suffered major engine problems in practice and did not compete. 150 Mick Sworder took two race wins, 45 Nigel Harrhy took one and 515 Frankie Wainman took the meeting final.

Nigel Harrhy took a flag to flag victory in heat one with 231 Mark Peters and 195 Dean Whitwell leading the chasing pack. This pair swapped places a couple of times allowing the leader to get away and the chasing reds to close. Frankie Wainman retired with a flat leaving Mick Sworder to launch a challenge but white top Harrhy was too far ahead. 464 Luke Davidson snatched third on the last bend with Mark Peters and 22 Will Yarrow four and five,

Rob Harrad and then Nigel Harrhy led away heat two but light rain had begun to fall making the track conditions very difficult. Nigel drifted wide allowing Dean Whitwell through and then Will Yarrow took up the running. He was gradually hauled in by Mick Sworder who went on to take the win with Will second. Dean Whitwell and 172 Micky Randell had a good battle with Micky moving into third. He closed in on Will for second but then lost out to Frankie for third on the last bend leading to a DNF.

For 19 ½ laps the meeting final seemed to be going to Nigel Harrhy but in the end he had to settle for second behind Frankie Wainman . Rob Harrad and then Nigel Harrhy led lap one with 91 Tony Smith an early second. Mick Sworder and 191 Josh Smith tangled putting both out with Mark Peters and Dean Whitwell now scrapping for second. Will Yarrow had made a good start a closed in on the pair and as Mark drifted wide he made third place with 372 Colin Goodswen putting in a determined drive in fourth. Conditions were still proving difficult with drivers finding no grip on the outside line. Frankie Wainman got by 55 Craig Finnikin and Micky Randell for fifth just after half way and began to close fast on the leaders. Will got by Dean Whitwell into second with four to run with Frankie third a lap later. Nigel was still out in front but chose the wrong line passing a back marker on turn one of the last lap allowing Will to come through on the inside. The pair clashed briefly and then Will’s car lost all drive. Frankie saw his opportunity and squeezed by the pair to take the chequered with Nigel second and the stricken 22 car sportingly pushed across the line by Colin Goodswen.

Mick Sworder made up for his final disappointment by blasting away the opposition in the grand national. Mick was up to second by half distance and in the lead shortly afterwards as the Mark Peters car expired. Nigel Harrhy had led the early laps before Mark got by but it was all about Mick Sworder who finished the length of the straight ahead of Luke Davidson and 217 Lee Fairhurst with Micky Randell fourth and the luckless on the night 16 Mat Newson fifth.

Heat one went to 422 Dave Riley.  He was ahead before the end of the first lap and saw off the challenges of 460 Chris Cooke, 172 Micky Randell and 464 Luke Davidson, although Luke was gaining in the closing stages but could not get near enough for a hit.  45 Nigel Harry led heat two from start to finish, Dave Riley chased for much of the race but Nigel always had a ten metre cushion.  Nigel led away heat three with Micky Randell in pursuit.  515 Frankie Wainman moved into second with five to run just before a caution after a roll over by Chris Cooke.  Frankie moved ahead soon after the re-start and took the flag ahead of 16 Matt Newson

Nigel Harrhy led the opening laps of the final before Dave Riley took over on lap four.  22 Will Yarrow was running second and Will took the lead around half distance.  84 Tom Harris moved into second with five to run but could not close the gap on Will who took the flag from Tom in second and 217 Lee Fairhurst in third.  The last race of the day was a flag to flag win for Nigel Harrhy, but he failed post race scrutineering, handing the win to Dave Riley with 150 Mick Sworder in second

161 Mark Allen and 195 Dean Whitwell had a good battle throughout heat one with the lead changing several times.  Mark had a couple of car lengths advantage at the flag.  Mark and Dean continued again in heat two with both having spells ahead but with four to run 150 Mick Sworder found a way past with 84 Tom Harris close by.  Tom took the lead next time around and held off a last bender from Mick to take the win.

In the final 411 Peter Kaulbarsch led them away but 417 Mike James took over on lap three.  There was a caution on lap four after a roll over by 4 Dan Johnson.  This closed up the field and Dean Whitwell moved ahead on the crestart.  Mike regained the lead soon after but had to give best to 422 Dave Riley at half distance.  Dave then romped away to the chequered, 16 Matt Newson passed second placed Mark Allen on the last bend but was subsequently disqualified when he failed scrutineering giving second back to Mark and third to 212 Danny Wainman.  There was more drama in the GN race as first past the post Mark Allen failed scrutineering.  Tom Harris and Mick Sworder had resumed their heat two battle as they fought for second but as Mick pushed Tom out wide on the last bend 217 Lee Fairhurst nipped through to be awarded the win.

Victory in the first heart went to 45 Nigel Harrhy.  Nigel led from start to finish but disaster almost struck as he tangled with a back marker only metres from the flag and crossed the line sideways.  422 Dave Riley finished second.  Dave went one better when he won heat two having led from lap two o9newards.  There was a good tussle for second between 11Neil Scriven and 22 Will Yarrow with Will eventually coming out on top.  411 Peter Kaulbarsch led away heat three but it wasn’t long before 161 Mark Allen hit the front.  172 Micky Randell slotted into second and set about chasing the leader who he caught and passed with two to run. Mark hanging on for second.

Nigel Harry led the first two laps of the final before being passed by Dave Riley with Mark Allen in second.  Mark moved ahead soon after with 12 Michael Scriven going second around half distance.  Michael shadowed the leader before executing a good last bender to take the flag from Mark in second and 84 Tom Harris in third.  Michael failed post race scrutineering handing the win to Mark and elevating 55 Craig Finnikin to third.  Micky Randell scored his second win of the night ion the GN, he passed 231 Mark Peters on lap five and drove away to the flag.  462 Scott Davids moved into second late on but Micky was well clear.

Top man of the meeting was 55 Craig Finnikin who won the final after a win and a second in his heats.  Craig took the opening heat, he was well clear of 16 Matt Newson and 215 Geoff Nickolls at the flag.  Geoff had been an earlier race leader along with 496 Neil Holcroft.  Craig had to give best to 446 Joe Booth in heat two though, Joe went ahead as early as lap three when he passed 76 Lee Smith and was well clear at the chequered from Craig and 515 Frankie Wainman.  New driver 138 Gary Ford led away heat three but was passed by 29 Ian Higgins on lap four.  Two laps later Frankie Wainman went ahead and Matt Newson moved into second but could make no impression on the leader and that is how they finished with 53 John Lund in third

Gary Ford led the first five laps of the final before being passed by Craig Finnikin who had an untroubled run to the flag.  There was action a-plenty behind him though as drivers jostled for position and at the end it was 4 Dan Johnson the runner up with Frankie Wainman in third.  The GN race was another race win for Joe Booth.  He took the lead around half distance from 214 Adam Slater.  Dan Johnson was gaining ground in the closing stages but was not quite near enough for a last bender.  Frankie Wainman finished in third.

Coventry June 2nd 2012

The first heat had 169 Billy Johnson ahead with 330 Graham Wagstaff slotting into second.  Graham moved to the lead on lap ten and 235 John Weldon went second.  214 Adam Slater moved up to second soon after and to the lead at the start of the last lap.  Graham tried a last bender which was not successful so Adam took the flag, John Weldon second and 394 Chris Clare third.  243 Martyn Walton led heat two away and stayed there until he was passed by 446 Joe Booth on lap seven.  321 Ed Neachell was running second with 84 Tom Harris in third.  Tom passed them both with four to run before taking the flag from Ed in second and Joe in third.

207 Ben Hurdman was the early leader of heat three before 97 Murray Harrison went by on five.  150 Mick Sworder and 515 Frankie Wainman had a good battle as they chased the leader, Frankie eventually getting to the front.  The lead changed hands between him and Mick several times over the remaining laps but Frankie was ahead at the flag after a last bender, Mick finished second and Murray third.  416 Dave Muckian led the consolation for four laps, then it was the turn of 496 Neil Holcroft.  337 Dave Willis moved into second but before he could challenge the leader he was moved aside by 4 Dan Johnson.  Dan took the lead with four to run and then the chequered, Dave finished second and 259 Paul Hines was third.

Martyn Walton led the first six laps of the final before Chris Clare moved ahead.  Chris opened up a useful lead as Ryan and Murray Harrison switched places in second several times.  335 Mark Woodhull came upon the scene and went into second.  Going into the last lap the aforementioned drivers were joined by Frankie Wainman and Mick Sworder and any one of them could have been the victor but at the chequered it was Mark first followed by Ryan and Frankie.  The rain was quite heavy by the GN race so making notes was impossible but out of my head 76 Lee Smith led the first few laps before pulling off at a caution leaving 290 Lee Warner ahead.  22 Will Yarrow went by soon afterwards but World Champion 2 Paul Harrison hunted him down, taking the lead around half distance and then the flag with Will sticking in there in second and Tom Harris finishing third.
