Don Evans - RIP

We are sorry to report the death on August 5th of Don Evans, aged 82.  Don raced under the number 37 from the late 50's until the mid 70's.  One of his claims to fame is that he was one of only two drivers to win a grand final at Wembley Stadium, in 1974.

Our thoughts are with Don's family at this time

Press Release from Management Board

Following recent speculation about Donington Park, the BriSCA Management Board make the following statement.

Within the last month contact was made with the BriSCA F1 Management Board requesting outline information with regard BriSCA and Oval Racing. The contact originated from the Operations Director of Donington Park.

Donington Park have not submitted any formal application at this time with regards 2011 and their enquiry was we understand entirely exploratory and unconnected with any previous discussions that may have taken place prior to the new Management takeover.

The very detailed Press Release issued was somewhat premature and issued without either consent or knowledge of the new Donington Park management.

HEMT NATIONAL POINTS 2010

The BriSCA F1 Management Board are pleased to announce a major sponsorship tie-up which results in the renaming of 2010 National Points Championship and Shootout to become the HEMT NATIONAL POINTS CHAMPIONSHIP 2010 and HEMT NATIONAL POINTS SHOOTOUT 2010.

The deal secures a significant increase in prize-funding for the season-long points battle where the top 12 of BriSCA's best at the cut-off after Buxton’s meeting on 1 August take part in the ten meeting HEMT National Points Shootout 2010 where the winning driver wins the coveted Silver Roof and title HEMT National Points Champion 2010.

HEMT is the abbreviation for Heavy Equipment Maintenance & Trading Co LLC which is a major company manufacturing and repairing oil rigs based in the Sultanate of Oman supplying the oil industry in the worldwide. The link to BriSCA F1 is far closer than may at first be imagined as the company is owned by a life-long BriSCA F1 fan Chris Green MBE. As Chris explains, "I've been a mechanic, a driver 494, and supporter of BriSCA Stock Car racing since 1966. Although I now live in Oman in the Middle East I still get over to meetings in UK whenever I can. The sport has given me so much pleasure over the years that this tie-up gives me the chance to show my appreciation and to put something back."

HEMT's involvement has been warmly welcomed by both BriSCA and the BSCDA. As Steve Rees, a promoter member of the Management Board explains, "Since it was formed the Management Board has been keen to see an increase the level of sponsorship to back-up the re-invigorated season-long points battle. HEMT coming in as the main sponsor has to be a great fillip for the sport".

BSCDA Chairman and fellow Management Board member Neil Scothern is equally enthusiastic adding, "HEMT join an already impressive list of sponsors (see below) but this is the first time we have secured a main sponsor and we very grateful to HEMT for coming on-board. Everyone will have heard of the Barclays Premier League. Now everyone in motorsport will need to get used to saying the HEMT National Points Championship! I hope everyone associated with the sport will be as pleased as I am and look forward to giving Chris Green, the HEMT CEO, the warmest of welcomes whenever he is able to get along to our events".

THE NATIONAL POINTS SERIES 2010....

How it works:-

While the Gold roof or World Champion in BriSCA Formula One Stock Car racing is determined by a one-off race at the end of a long series of qualification the National Series, which determines which driver’s car wears the Silver roof is decided by a race series which features throughout the season.

Over the past few years there have been some very tight finishes to the National Series title and in 2009 there was a new, and a very significant twist whereby a ten meeting NASCAR-style shoot-out was introduced at the end of the year to the top ten drivers from 25 designated meetings.

This proved to be successful and 2010 will see a similar system used, although with a few modifications.

This year all meetings from Belle Vue on March 21st to Buxton on August 1st will count after which the top twelve drivers will progress to the shootout.  Their scores will be re set to zero, but will then have bonus points added to make up a starting score for the Shootout.  Two points will be given for each meeting attended plus one point for each meeting final win.

The final round, or Series Finale is the culmination of the 10 meeting Shoot-Out carries double points and takes place at Coventry Stadium, on Saturday  November 6th.
