GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP -
MAJOR CHANGE FOR 2013 Season Onwards
Following declining driver interest in recent years the BMB
agreed there should no longer be a championship race but the
points accumulated (weighted by grade) at all meetings
featuring a Grand National race would continue.
A new perpetual trophy will be purchased which will be
presented to the winner of the Championship which would be
engraved with all previous winners.

Press
Statement – issued by the BriSCA F1 Management Board
Racefans
will be aware that the BriSCA F1 Management Board has started
deliberations on the future of the sport
This is a process that will continue over the months ahead with
changes likely to be phased in over the next couple of seasons.
As part of this process it has been agreed that the views of
racefans will be sought as part of this process and to this end
BriSCA will arrange for a questionnaire to be made available at the
2012 World Final. All responses will be carefully considered as part
of the review.
This will enable everyone associated with the sport to have an input
to the review to ensure that the sport not only celebrates its
Diamond Jubilee in great style but moves into the period beyond
going from strength to strength. The Management Board see the review
as particularly important given the severity of the economic
downturn.
The discussions so far will see the first change to the running of
the sport as early as August, timed to ensure the change follows
completion of both World Championship Semi-finals.
As from the Coventry meeting on Saturday 4 August the single file
restart following a caution will change. Instead the race leader at
the time of the caution will be given the choice of starting either
on the inside or outside of the front row of the grid. Once that
decision is made all other drivers will slot into the closed grid
formation in pairs.
This change will be treated as a formal agreed amendment to the 2012
Regulations and is expected to have several benefits including
reducing the scope for overtaking prior to the green flag on the
restart as well as being fairer since the single file restarts in
many races can stretch the field almost all the way around the
circuit.
Other important aspects of the review will include consideration of
a number of aspects of car specification not only aiming to make the
sport fairer and safer but also to help ensure it remains cost
effective.
